When You Arrive
You will be seen by the triage nurse who will evaluate the urgency and nature of your illness or injury. If you have a primary care physician,
be sure to inform the nurse of your doctor’s name to ensure continuity of care.Whenever possible, you should notify your primary care
physician before coming to the Emergency Department. After you are seen by the triage nurse, a member of the registration staff will ask
you or someone who is with you for registration information. You will then be seen by a team of healthcare professionals who will assess
your condition, order any necessary diagnostic tests, and provide the necessary treatment during your stay.Test results will be discussed
with you, and you will be given instructions about follow-up care. When appropriate, your primary care physician will be contacted.
If You Are Admitted
You will be assigned a bed as quickly as possible on the appropriate unit and campus. Please inform the Emergency Department if you
were previously treated at the former Beth Israel Hospital (East Campus) or the former Deaconess Hospital (West Campus). This in-
formation will allow your care team to access the most current information regarding your condition, and if possible, may enable staff to
treat you at the location with which you are familiar. Remember, however, that we are now one combined medical center at both
campuses. Once you are transferred to a unit and bed, a new team of providers will continue your day-to-day medical care and decide
when you are able to return home. Before you are discharged, you will receive instructions about follow-up care.
