INTRODUCTION OF SCREW CONVEYOR
• Screw conveyors are widely used for transporting and/or elevating
particulates at controlled and steady rates.
• They are used in many bulk material applications in industries ranging
from industrial minerals, agriculture (grains), pharmaceuticals,
chemicals, pigments, plastics, cement, sand, salt and food processing.
• They are also used for metering (measuring the flow rate) from
storage bins and adding small controlled amounts of trace materials
such as pigments to granular materials or powders.

From the diagram we can
see free body diagram of
the screw conveyor,
where the various loads
on the conveyor are
shown.
Mainly four forces are
acting on the screw, they
are
• Torsional force-F.T
• Pulley force-F.P
• Weight of the gear box
mounted on the
shaft—F.W
• Bending force-F.B
FABRICATION OF SCREW CONVEYOR
• Fabrication Of Flight
Fabrication of conveyor screw is
crucial component, conveyor
screw is the series of flights which
are TIG welded on the pipe of
required dimension
The circular discs with slits as
shown fig. are made into flights
using special rolling machines or
CNC machines
• The rest other components of
the screw conveyor like troughs,
trough ends, covers, shafts,
clamps, supporting feet, hopper
etc. are fabricated (welding,
grinding, lathe) according the
requirement of the material to
be conveyed.
• The spherical bearing are used at
the loading and unloading side of
the shaft. All the parts are
assembled together to make
screw conveyor
CONCLUSION
The project title “DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF SCREW CONVEYOR” explain the design and
manufacturing of the screw conveyor, basic application of which is to transport bulk material for a
required distance horizontally.
The project gives the detailed information about various factors that we take into account before
designing and selecting different components, which form a part of a screw conveyor, it also gives the
details of assembly as per the standard procedure employed in the industry.
Moving ahead from the designing stage this project gives the detailed account of the fabrication of the
screw conveyor and welding techniques and maintenance for the better performance for the longer life
Finally the project highlights the main advantage of screw conveyor and its superiority over other
conveyor design
