3. WELCOME LETTER
It is both an honor and a pleasure for the Spanish Society of Biochemistry
CONTENTS and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) to organize the 22 nd IUBMB & 37th FEBS
Congress. The standards of modern Spain in Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology are historically high. Attesting to this fact, the SEBBM is a very
1 Welcome Letter active organization encompassing 21 interest groups and more than 4000
2 Committees members. SEBBM, one of FEBS founding societies, has already organized
two successful FEBS meetings (Madrid, 1969, and Barcelona, 1996). And

In line with these advances, an extraordinary scientific program that com-
prehensively covers the latest advances in bioscience research has been
arranged. Multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity are
thus essential characteristics of this meeting.
The Organization has worked intensively to make this Congress a most out-
standing experience that lives up to the highest expectations of the par-
ticipant colleagues. We are convinced that this meeting will offer a singular
opportunity for the attendees to engage in fruitful discussions, as well as
establish new friendships and collaborations.
