Toyota works with Microsoft to develop hand gesture technology!
1. Toyota works with Microsoft to
develop hand gesture technology!
As Toyota continues to improve safety technology, hand gestures could be part of it. Jim Lentz,
CEO of Toyota Motor Sales USA, announced at the Los Angeles International Auto Show new
technology might be on the horizon. Toyota is working with Microsoft to explore the possibility
of hand gestures in the car to control the audio system and other features.
Safety is a top priority at our N Charlotte Toyota dealership, and we’d love to see where this
technology can go. For instance, if you wanted to change the volume of your audio system you
would simply motion your hand upward to raise it, or lower your hand to drop the volume. This
would eliminate audio controls altogether, as Jim Lentz sees it. It would come in handy if your
hands are full; all you need to do is gesture the trunk to open. This technology could change
the driving experience altogether.
At Toyota of N Charlotte, we don’t know when this technology will be available. The partnership
between Toyota and Microsoft is strong and we would expect for this research to continue in
the next few years. Maybe one day we will have it on new Toyota near Charlotte!
Find available Head Up Display in the N Charlotte Toyota Prius!
You will be pleasantly surprised there is technology out there on the Toyota Prius near
Charlotte that is based on the same concept. Head Up Display is the only safety feature on the
market that displays controls on the windshield so the driver doesn’t need to look down. This
technology was first developed to be used in fighter jets. It’s now an available feature on the
2013 Toyota Prius near Charlotte!
2. Steering wheel audio controls offer
convenience to many Toyota drivers.
However, Toyota is improving upon
this convenience feature by giving you
the option of Head Up Display (HUD)
in the N Charlotte Toyota Prius. When
you put your hands over the steering
wheel controls, a ghost image will
appear on the windshield,
highlighting where your hand is. You
can then maneuver your hands
around on the steering wheel to locate
the control you are looking for. This is
much safer than taking the few
moments to look down at the steering
wheel. It also projects your speed and
fuel economy.
You don’t need to look down to change audio volume!
This is one impressive feature on the N Charlotte Toyota Prius. It’s one more step toward safety
technology. The 2013 Toyota Prius also has a pre-collision system that detects when a crash is
unavoidable. The system retracts seat belt and pressurizes brakes to minimize damage in a
crash. The N Charlotte Toyota Prius is one smart car.
