An example of how smaller financers in development can join in bigger projects

Development for Households
and Businesses

2. Background
 Since Philantrophy has had an strong increase the last 15 years and is about 50 %
of ODA reaching 60 – 70 billion dollar pr. year (Geoffrey Lamb, the Gates
Foundation) there might be a big interest in finding effective and reliable projects
to finance
 The most most important in development is DRM (Domestic Resourse
Mobilization) (Bertrand Badre, World Bank Group) and to reach the SDG’s more
money and smarter money is needed (Susan McAdams)
 Give an opportunity for households (also as an alternative for remittances) and
businesses to channeling development finance to the most effective projects
 Today it is no easy access to participate in theese prosjects for households and
businesses as I know about

3. The Idea
 ODA or other providers of finances and advices to countries can make an easy access for
households or businesses by an internetsite and/or an app to provide information and
finance options to transfer money directly to different projects
 Theese finances may be given as grants or loans with or wthout interest rate
 There will also be updated information where the financers can follow the progress of
the project/s they have chosen
 The idea might be to choose a few projects also supported by ODA and others to give
theese ‘smaller’ financers an opportunity to participate in for instance 10 % of the
projects total amounts
 This is an alternative to join bigger projects and more effective procjects than I assume
is possible in regular NGO’s and might be more appealing to some Philanthropists and
businesses

4. Marketing
 To get the information out about this possibility peers in developed countries
might participate in discussions in the media online, in newspapers on TV etc.
 To be able to participate in theese projects in building countries might appeal to
bussinesses as an attractive alternative to their Social Responsibility and one
solution might be to hire people to contact firms for building up awareness,
information and selling theese projects by phone, Skype and face to face. Some
kind of diploma for participating might be of interest for theese firms to show their
contribution.

5. Constraints
 This might be an competitor to for instance NGO’s, but it will be a different product
and maybe for people and businesses who wants to give a bigger amount
 There might be some costs regarding making and maintaining the products and
theese should be investigated before starting.
 There might also be clarifying to make 1 – 3 prosjects as a pilot to check out the
interest
