2. Present Simple
• In present simple used the time expressions:
Every day/ week/ month/ summer, etc; usually;
often; seldom; never; always; occasionally;
sometimes; generally; normally.
• Use:
1. Habitual actions e.g. We usually go to the Algarve.
2. Permanent situations e.g. Luc lives in the Province
of Nova Scotia.
3. Programmes or timetables e.g. The film starts at
nine o’clock.
4. Generals truths of natural laws e.g. The Earth goes
round the Sun.
3. Present Continuous
• In the Present Continuous used the times
expressions: Now; at the moment; at present
(tomorrow, next week/ month, in a week, etc).
• Use
1. To discribe something taking place now, at the
moment of talking e.g. Luc is in the swimming pool.
He’s swimming.
2. For something happenig temporarily, for a short
time. e.g. Luc and Erica are staying at their
grandfather’s house this month.
3. For fixed arrangements in the near future e.g. Luc’s
suitcase is ready. He’s leaving tomorrow.
4. Past Simple
• In the Past Simple used the times expressions: yesterday;
three days/weeks/months/years ago; last week/
month/year; in 2004, on 3RD September/in those days…
• Use:
1. For habits or actions wich took place in the past. e.g. I
went to na island in Maine with a group of friend.
2. In conditional sentences for something hypothetical.
e.g. If you loved me, you wouldn’t say such cruel things.
3. For reporting what someone said in yhe past. e.g. She
said she liked the island
