2. HORROR Horrors are films that are created to startle and un-settle audiences, they often do this by involving macabre and supernatural themes. The words “horror movie” were first written in Universal’s very famous horror movies “Dracula” (1931) and “Frankenstein” (1931) Early horror films dealt mostly with audiences nightmares and worst fears in order to achieve the scare factor they were aiming for The earlier horror films were based on classic literature of the gothic/horror genre, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
3. Horror The first depictions of “horror films” involving supernaturalism were actually short silent clips by a film pioneer called Georges Méliès in the late 1890’s His most notable film was “Le Manoir du diable” which translates to “The house of the Devil”. It is credited as the first horror film in history. The 20th centenary brought through another famous horror millstone of “Monsters” creating horror genre inspired films such as “Quasimodo” and “Hunchback of Notre-Dame”
4. The 1990’s proved to be an impressive year for the Horror genre, as successful box office sequels such as “Halloween”, “Nightmare on Elm street” and “Friday the 13th” were released. These films all added an extra scare factor as they concentrated on fictional horror as well as real world horror the combination of the two brought horror to a new level meaning more films were to be produced like this. For example “Candy Man” which is also a well renowned film. Horror grew from silent and short clips in to one of the most popular genres of today. horror
5. horror The start of 2000 saw a quiet period for the genre of horror. Later on franchise films such as “Freddie vs. Jason” were released and also “Final Destination” was a successful sub genre horror focused on the “teen horror” aspect. This then saw an array of famous horror films return such as “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” which was first released in 1974. Halloween, Nightmare on Elm street and Friday the 13th also saw new releases hit the public as Horror films we excelling. This brought out more sub genre horror films, such as the “comedy horror” a British film staring a well renown actor, “Simon Pegg” Other films such as “Wrong Turn, Hannibal Lector, Dawn of the dead, Last house on the left and many more were also released, all containing the supernatural, physiological aspect to really strike fear into the hearts of viewers!
6. horror As you can see horror has gone from a small creation into one of to worlds most popular genres if not the most popular. It has created some classic films in the film industry and will carry on doing so in the fourth coming years.
