7. Treatment of Mild Ankle
Sprain
• R.I.C.E.
• R-Rest the ankle by not
walking on it
• I-Ice should be applied
immediately. To keep
swelling down. (20-30
min.)
• C- Compression

immobilize and support
ankle
• E- Elevate ankle above
heart for about 48hrs.
8. Treatment continued...
- Isometric exercises
-Full range of motion
stretching/strengthening exercises as
tolerated
-No splinting or casting
-Weight bearing as tolerated
9. Prognosis
• Recovery time depends
upon the severity of the
ankle sprain and possible
accompanying injuries. But
2-3 weeks of rehabilitation
should allow the ankle to
be fully recovered.
• Exercises should be
started to maintain
flexibility and strength
when the swelling has
resolved and the patient
