How to get backlinks in 2013 is a burning question
for many SEO’s and internet marketers, and I can’t
say I blame them. For the past year, I have seen my
websites gain speed and traffic one month only to
have Google trample over my rankings the next,
leaving the blame to innocent Pandas and Penguins.
What’s worse is that Google now has a reporting
system where you can report other webmasters,
disavow links you no longer want to claim, and flat
out ruin other people’s hard won rankings by reporting them for spamming. It’s all very ugly, and I am
sure that karma plays a role in this mess somewhere.
Negative SEO and just plain old negativity will always come back to bite you in the ass. Every time, just
like a spell cast from a place of negative emotion, you may cause pain and damage to another, but rest
assured, you will catch it three-fold.
That said, let’s get on to the best way to build your links and drive real sustainable traffic to your
website.
1. Make Sure Your Website is Working
The first step in this process may seem like a no-
brainer but you want to make sure that your website
looks good, is usable, and visitors will actually want to
visit and stay a while. (And perhaps subscribe to your
newsletter and BUY something)
I prefer to use Wordpress blogs simply because they
are easy to set up and have a ton of free themes and
plugins. They have settings that are really easy to use
and you can write until your heart’s content.
Of course, you are welcome to create any kind of
website you choose. Just make sure that visitors are not leaving as faster than they arrive. Add Google
Analytics to the website and watch your bounce rate over the course of a few months. The bounce rate
will tell you approximately how many visitors are leaving too soon.

your time, step into your customer’s shoes, and honestly ask yourself if you would trust the site and buy

2. Create Great Website Content
To get visitors, traffic, and sales – write every post on
your website or blog for people to read. Yes, I said it.
Treat your site as a business that represents you. You
are special, unique, and full of good ideas. Write
articles that reflect your own style and opinions.
Try not to worry if you are not the best writer in the
world get someone to help you express your thoughts
on paper, then start posting!

I have learned the hard way from experience that if you start spinning crap articles and posting them to
your site…creating site after site…you will have created a recipe for online disaster.

On-page SEO can be a blast if you know what you are doing. This means getting your site SEO ready so

Here’s the juicy part – How to get backlinks by creating links to your website. I am going to share with
you my method for getting backlinks to a new website. You might want to get out your pen and paper,
this is going to be fun!
SEO Witch Tips: Be sure to vary your anchor text by using a variety of keywords for each post and page.
Also mix in your blog title, and the URL.
Never, ever use the same few keywords over and over again in a short period of time.
Always get a variety of links, make your linking profile look natural as if all kinds of sites are linking to
you. Remember, it’s a popularity contest…like in high school. You want everyone to like you. ;)
1. Directory Links
One of my favorite ways to start a backlinking
campaign on a new website is to begin with
directory links. With a newer website, I would
submit only to 100 directories a month and no
more for the first few months. The keyword is
gradual because you don’t want to get onto
Google’s radar as a spammer.
Directories are generally very good about accepting sites, but super slow in processing
the link. Don’t worry though, every link counts. Here are some good places to find free
directories:

If you are pressed for time and have some extra money to invest in tools, I recommend
using the following:
iii. Ultimate Demon – This software is excellent for submitting your website to web

easy and you can take advantage of a free trial.

2. Blog Commenting
a. Find relevant blogs to your blog’s topic, and post these manually.
b. Never ever spam thousands of blogs at one time, or post a ton of auto-comments to any
blog, (Really Bad Idea – and Stupid Spammer Move)
c. Always be polite, and relevant to the topic you post to.
Articles and Web 2.0
This is by far my favorite way to build
backlinks to my site. I do this manually to a
select few article directories and web 2.0
blogs to get more attention to my site.
Write your own article based on each blog
post. Rewrite the articles a few times by
hand or manually using the Best Spinner.

i. Easy cheesy – another way to get a good backlink!
Video and Podcasts
e. Create a video from a Powerpoint Presentation, Windows movie maker, or use an easy
video creator like Animoto.com. Get out there and submit to video sharing sites like
Youtube.com and Vimeo.com.
f. Create a podcast of your website content and submit it to the top podcast sites.
i. Did you know that even Apple iTunes lets you submit your content? How great
is that?!?
