Shape Task
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the way the body shape of the owl turned
out and how I used the use of drop shadows to
create the owls face.
What would you improve if you did it again?
To improve my image I would try and and more
texture to the image, mostly in the tree so that it
looks like something more than a brown block.
Rotoscope
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
The thing that I like about my image is that you can
tell exactly who the celebrity is just by my image
alone which shows that I have done a good job.
What would you improve if you did it again?
To improve my image I would spend more time on
the individual shapes of the picture to create a
cartoon picture more true to the original.
Text Based
Text based
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
The thing I liked about my image is my work with the
clipping mask and how that text turned out aesthetically.
The thing that I liked about my second image is that its
very clear to see the hints I am making to tie in with the
quote. I have took the quote very literally.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would improve by changing the font that I had originally
used for the first text and also the colour as I find it too
hard to read especially if found in a big block of text. I
would also add more detail to my second image if I had
had a little more time to do so.
Comic Book
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked the effect that I have chosen and how I have
played around with the settings of the chosen effect
until I found one that I liked.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I feel that certain parts of my image could be
improved but am unsure on how to accomplish this
perhaps I need another run through of how to
accomplish this comic book effect.
Photography
Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I am happy with the photography in my work
and how it is easy to tell the story that I have
chosen
What would you improve if you did it again?
I feel that some of the Photoshop work that I
have done is lacking in quality and could be
redone to look a lot better

Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
The part that I like about my image is how you are
able to see the story that has been told just by the
pictures itself.
What would you improve if you did it again?
To improve the image, I would perhaps try and
experiment with telling the same story but drawing
the image differently, perhaps drawing it through
the eyes of the man on top of the giant.
Initial Ideas
Mind Map
Children’s
book
Characters
• Girl servant turns princess, A mistreated
girl who the boy takes a liking to however
seems impossible for them to be together
but are by the end
• Giant, evil giant who gets defeated or
outsmarted by the boy
• Boy hero, saves the day and gets the girl
• King & Queen, side characters who are
sometimes protagonists and sometimes
antagonists
• Old wise man, helps to train and advise
the hero character
Colour Scheme
• Gritty colours
• Flamboyant and
expressive colours
• Black and white
Stories themes
• Rhyming
• Comedic elements e.g.
Dr. Seuss
• Poem
• Fairy tale e.g.
Cinderella
• Children's book e.g.
The hungry caterpillar
Style
• Hand drawn
• Watercolour
• Computer graphics
• Paint
Creation methods
• Illustrations
• Rotoscoping
• Photography
• Shapes
• Filter gallery e.g. Cutout
Fonts
• Black, simple and easy to read
• Use text as a way to tell the story such
as making the text go down when
going down stairs
• Complicated and elegant fonts
Setting
• Forest, forest can provide a great
setting for the majority of the story,
probably the middle where the
conflict occurs
• Kingdom, Where the king and queen
reside, usually where the end of the
book would take place
• Children's house, In more modern
children's books a children's house a
common choice.
Master of all masters is the
children's tale I am leaning
towards the most.
Story
I decided between two story’s, one of
these does not have that much of a
story behind it so the majority of
characters that I have mentioned in this
mind map are featured around the first
story (Nix nought nothing). The other
one which I am more leaning towards
because of its comedic value is called
Master of all masters.
Here is some front covers of popular
existing children's books to give me
some inspiration for my own
Here is illustrations using
different techniques to give
me some ideas of how I
should create my own
Mood board planning
Some ideas of what the characters within the story
could look like when I come to create them
I have found multiple
pictures of each
character so that I can
make a decision as to
which one I prefer
Here are various settings and
elements that appear within the
story, these are here to assist me
when I come to bring all of these
elements together

Story Overview
The story is about a girl that visited a fair in a effort to hire herself as a servant, she hires herself to a old
gentleman who takes her back to his home. Once arriving upon his house the gentleman explains that he
has something to teach the young woman. He says that in his house he has his own names for things. He
asks her a series of questions such as “what will you call me?” she responds “master or mister.” The man
explains that she must call him master of all masters. The man then asks “what she would call this” pointing
to a bed. She say “either a bed or a couch” The man demands that she calls it “barnacle” This continues for
awhile, the man pointing to various objects and giving names to the items in his house. The man then goes
to bed and later that night the servant wakes up the man and talks to him in a great panic but in his made
up language. The story is supposed to have a comedic factor and provide a funny punch line.

Advantages: Is the standard for pictures on the web and have small file sizes.
Disadvantages: Begins to lose quality when multiple edits are made upon it.

Audience
I feel that with my children's book my target audience is in the 3 to 6 age range. I
came to this conclusion because some of the words created by the man could be
seen as a little harder to understand for a younger audience who perhaps might not
understand the joke however could still enjoy the images. The book would most
likely be read by a child and their parent so the parent can help guide the child
along through the book. I feel that anyone of a older age may not enjoy it as much
and would perhaps be interested in a more mature book with a interesting story
while this book doesn’t really have one and is more of a joke with illustrations.
Production Methods
To create the images I intend to use Photoshop, I will be using rotoscoping as a
method to help me achieve this. My plan is to collect individual elements such as
pictures of a real life house, cat, old man (all elements in the story) I will then
rotoscope these images and begin to piece them all together. I feel I am most
confident in Photoshop because of the practice I have had with the program and
would much prefer to using this method to any other because I trust that it'll be the
best option for creating the best end product that I possibly can.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
Good clear description of the aims and what the
creative and production side would entail. Well
thought out ideas with a range of possible paths to
follow. Also your audience was pretty clear.
Explanation of the story was a little unclear, there
wasn’t a clear structure to the narrative, from what I
read.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
A range of ideas and different types of styles. Good
use of colour schemes and the water colour thing is
a different style to how most modern books are
illustrated, giving it a lil bit more.
More of an insight to the setting and how it would of
affected the overall story. Maybe look into a bigger
range of styles used to create more creative styles.
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I think what you wrote for the audience and
production methods are great.
This shows you know why you are using Photoshop
for your story.
The story overview is good but you can elaborate
why the girl must call the man “master of masters”.
The audience is good but you can develop it a bit
more. ‘why do you think older children would be
interested in another book?’ * You can elaborate
here.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
The proposal explains in detail the production
methods and style of story that you want to create.
It also allows the reader to understand yours aims
in creating a children’s story.
The story explanation could use more detail and
perhaps talk about what changes you might or have
made.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
The mind map is detailed and easy to navigate
meaning that all information is easy to interpret and
understand. The mood boards also show what you
want the story to look like.
You could try adding more inspirations from other
mediums such as games, television to gain an
insight of what else you could do with the art style
or story elements.
Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
The feedback I received seems quite varied however people did focus on the story and
how it is a little confusing, overall I am happy with the feedback I received and find it to
be a fair critique.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree that my story is a little unclear, I realised this when writing it however I struggled
to make my story more clear. This is something that I will go back to and try to improve.
People seemed to be happy with my audience and production methods that I wrote, I
also feel that this is satisfactory
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I am happy with my feedback as I knew that there were weaknesses in my work, I don’t
disagree with any of the feedback given.

A girl once went to the fair to hire herself for servant. At last a funny-looking old gentleman engaged her, and took her
home to his house. When she got there, he told her that he had something to teach her, for that in his house he had his
own names for things.
He said to her: "What will you call me?"
"Master or mister, or whatever you please sir," says she.
He said: "You must call me 'master of all masters.' And what would you call this?" pointing to his bed.
"Bed or couch, or whatever you please, sir.”
"No, that's my 'barnacle.' And what do you call these?" said he pointing to his pantaloons.
"Breeches or trousers, or whatever you please, sir."
"You must call them 'squibs and crackers.' And what would you call her?" pointing to the cat.
"Cat or kit, or whatever you please, sir."
"You must call her 'white-faced simminy.' And this now," showing the fire, "what would you call this?"
"Fire or flame, or whatever you please, sir."
"You must call it 'hot cockalorum,' and what this?" he went on, pointing to the water.
"Water or wet, or whatever you please, sir."
"No, 'pondalorum' is its name. And what do you call all this?" asked he, as he pointed to the house.
"House or cottage, or whatever you please, sir."
"You must call it 'high topper mountain.’”
That very night the servant woke her master up in a fright and said: "Master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and
put on your squibs and crackers. For white-faced simminy has got a spark of hot cockalorum on its tail, and unless you get
some pondalorum high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum." …. That's all.

Final Script
Page 1. One day an old man was walking through the woods as he often did during his summer, this particular day he ran into a girl. She said to the man “Hello
good sir, I’m offering my services as a house maid. Are you interested?” “I want you to work for me and be my maid, but much will it cost me?” says the old man
“why just 10 gold coins” says the woman. The man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a platinum coin and without saying anything flips it into the woman’s
hand. The man begins to walk off and after a few seconds the woman begins to follow him.
Page 2. They had been walking for days until they finally came to a clearing “This is my glorious house,” proclaims the man as he opens the door and lets the
woman inside.
Page 3. Once inside the house the man starts to explain, “now Miss there is a set of rules that exist in my house and now that you’re living here you must follow
these rules” The woman without saying any words just nods happily in agreement. “Now what would you call me?” “Mr or Sir?’ the women responds, “No! You
must call me master of all masters.”
Page 4. “What would you call this my dear?” “Why it’s a bed of course,” says the woman walking over to the bed. “No girl, this is my barnacle!” responds the man
walking over to join her next to the bed.
Page 5. “And what would you call these my dear” says the man pointing down “Why they’re your trousers Sir… um Master of all masters” “No girl these are my
squibs and crackers! I have a whole wardrobe of squibs and crackers.”
Page 6. “And what would you call her my dear?” That’s your cat, what is her name? “Her name is white-faced simminy” “Well she’s very cute” says the woman
as she reaches out to pet her, white-faced simminy hisses back in response.
Page 7. “And what name would you give these my dear?” Pointing to the corner of the room “Well that’s your fireplace and right next to it is a bucket of water”
“No, no, no all wrong, that is my hot cockalorum and sat next to it is my pondalorum.”
Page 8. “And finally dear what name would you give to my glorious house?” “Well this is your cottage” “No my dear, did your mother teach you nothing? This is
high topper mountain!”
Page 9. “There are my rules my dear and if you follow them then we’re going to get on like a house on fire, now it is time for me to head to my barnacle, can you
please feed white-faced simminy for me” “Of course master of all masters, sleep well.”
Page 10. Later that night when everything was quiet suddenly the girl burst through the door into the old mans room “Master of all masters, get out of your
barnacle and put on some squibs and crackers quick! “What is the problem my dear?” asks the old man still laid in bed, “White faced simminy has got a spark of
hot cockalorum on his tail, and unless you get some pondalorum I’m afraid high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum.”
Page 11. The man lazily got out of bed and walked out into the living room where the women was quivering in fear, The man slowly bent down and picked up the
pondalorum and through it on top of white faced simminy who shrieks greatly, without saying anything the man calmly returns to his bedroom. “Oh and next
time my dear put out the hot cockalorum before you go to barnacle.”

  • 3. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked the way the body shape of the owl turned out and how I used the use of drop shadows to create the owls face. What would you improve if you did it again? To improve my image I would try and and more texture to the image, mostly in the tree so that it looks like something more than a brown block.
  • 5. Evaluation What did you like about your image? The thing that I like about my image is that you can tell exactly who the celebrity is just by my image alone which shows that I have done a good job. What would you improve if you did it again? To improve my image I would spend more time on the individual shapes of the picture to create a cartoon picture more true to the original.
  • 8. Evaluation What did you like about your image? The thing I liked about my image is my work with the clipping mask and how that text turned out aesthetically. The thing that I liked about my second image is that its very clear to see the hints I am making to tie in with the quote. I have took the quote very literally. What would you improve if you did it again? I would improve by changing the font that I had originally used for the first text and also the colour as I find it too hard to read especially if found in a big block of text. I would also add more detail to my second image if I had had a little more time to do so.
  • 10. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I liked the effect that I have chosen and how I have played around with the settings of the chosen effect until I found one that I liked. What would you improve if you did it again? I feel that certain parts of my image could be improved but am unsure on how to accomplish this perhaps I need another run through of how to accomplish this comic book effect.
  • 12. Evaluation What did you like about your image? I am happy with the photography in my work and how it is easy to tell the story that I have chosen What would you improve if you did it again? I feel that some of the Photoshop work that I have done is lacking in quality and could be redone to look a lot better
  • 14. Evaluation What did you like about your image? The part that I like about my image is how you are able to see the story that has been told just by the pictures itself. What would you improve if you did it again? To improve the image, I would perhaps try and experiment with telling the same story but drawing the image differently, perhaps drawing it through the eyes of the man on top of the giant.
  • 16. Mind Map Children’s book Characters • Girl servant turns princess, A mistreated girl who the boy takes a liking to however seems impossible for them to be together but are by the end • Giant, evil giant who gets defeated or outsmarted by the boy • Boy hero, saves the day and gets the girl • King & Queen, side characters who are sometimes protagonists and sometimes antagonists • Old wise man, helps to train and advise the hero character Colour Scheme • Gritty colours • Flamboyant and expressive colours • Black and white Stories themes • Rhyming • Comedic elements e.g. Dr. Seuss • Poem • Fairy tale e.g. Cinderella • Children's book e.g. The hungry caterpillar Style • Hand drawn • Watercolour • Computer graphics • Paint Creation methods • Illustrations • Rotoscoping • Photography • Shapes • Filter gallery e.g. Cutout Fonts • Black, simple and easy to read • Use text as a way to tell the story such as making the text go down when going down stairs • Complicated and elegant fonts Setting • Forest, forest can provide a great setting for the majority of the story, probably the middle where the conflict occurs • Kingdom, Where the king and queen reside, usually where the end of the book would take place • Children's house, In more modern children's books a children's house a common choice. Master of all masters is the children's tale I am leaning towards the most. Story I decided between two story’s, one of these does not have that much of a story behind it so the majority of characters that I have mentioned in this mind map are featured around the first story (Nix nought nothing). The other one which I am more leaning towards because of its comedic value is called Master of all masters.
  • 17. Here is some front covers of popular existing children's books to give me some inspiration for my own Here is illustrations using different techniques to give me some ideas of how I should create my own Mood board planning
  • 18. Some ideas of what the characters within the story could look like when I come to create them I have found multiple pictures of each character so that I can make a decision as to which one I prefer Here are various settings and elements that appear within the story, these are here to assist me when I come to bring all of these elements together Mood board chosen idea
  • 19. Proposal Dimensions 8 pages, 20x15cm Story Overview The story is about a girl that visited a fair in a effort to hire herself as a servant, she hires herself to a old gentleman who takes her back to his home. Once arriving upon his house the gentleman explains that he has something to teach the young woman. He says that in his house he has his own names for things. He asks her a series of questions such as “what will you call me?” she responds “master or mister.” The man explains that she must call him master of all masters. The man then asks “what she would call this” pointing to a bed. She say “either a bed or a couch” The man demands that she calls it “barnacle” This continues for awhile, the man pointing to various objects and giving names to the items in his house. The man then goes to bed and later that night the servant wakes up the man and talks to him in a great panic but in his made up language. The story is supposed to have a comedic factor and provide a funny punch line. http://www.worldoftales.com/European_folktales/English_folktale_42.html Export Format JPEG Advantages: Is the standard for pictures on the web and have small file sizes. Disadvantages: Begins to lose quality when multiple edits are made upon it.
  • 20. Deadline 6th of November 2015 Audience I feel that with my children's book my target audience is in the 3 to 6 age range. I came to this conclusion because some of the words created by the man could be seen as a little harder to understand for a younger audience who perhaps might not understand the joke however could still enjoy the images. The book would most likely be read by a child and their parent so the parent can help guide the child along through the book. I feel that anyone of a older age may not enjoy it as much and would perhaps be interested in a more mature book with a interesting story while this book doesn’t really have one and is more of a joke with illustrations. Production Methods To create the images I intend to use Photoshop, I will be using rotoscoping as a method to help me achieve this. My plan is to collect individual elements such as pictures of a real life house, cat, old man (all elements in the story) I will then rotoscope these images and begin to piece them all together. I feel I am most confident in Photoshop because of the practice I have had with the program and would much prefer to using this method to any other because I trust that it'll be the best option for creating the best end product that I possibly can.
  • 21. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? Good clear description of the aims and what the creative and production side would entail. Well thought out ideas with a range of possible paths to follow. Also your audience was pretty clear. Explanation of the story was a little unclear, there wasn’t a clear structure to the narrative, from what I read. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? A range of ideas and different types of styles. Good use of colour schemes and the water colour thing is a different style to how most modern books are illustrated, giving it a lil bit more. More of an insight to the setting and how it would of affected the overall story. Maybe look into a bigger range of styles used to create more creative styles.
  • 22. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? I think what you wrote for the audience and production methods are great. This shows you know why you are using Photoshop for your story. The story overview is good but you can elaborate why the girl must call the man “master of masters”. The audience is good but you can develop it a bit more. ‘why do you think older children would be interested in another book?’ * You can elaborate here. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?
  • 23. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work? The proposal explains in detail the production methods and style of story that you want to create. It also allows the reader to understand yours aims in creating a children’s story. The story explanation could use more detail and perhaps talk about what changes you might or have made. What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed? The mind map is detailed and easy to navigate meaning that all information is easy to interpret and understand. The mood boards also show what you want the story to look like. You could try adding more inspirations from other mediums such as games, television to gain an insight of what else you could do with the art style or story elements.
  • 24. Feedback Summary Sum up your feedback. The feedback I received seems quite varied however people did focus on the story and how it is a little confusing, overall I am happy with the feedback I received and find it to be a fair critique. Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why? I agree that my story is a little unclear, I realised this when writing it however I struggled to make my story more clear. This is something that I will go back to and try to improve. People seemed to be happy with my audience and production methods that I wrote, I also feel that this is satisfactory Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why? I am happy with my feedback as I knew that there were weaknesses in my work, I don’t disagree with any of the feedback given.
  • 28. Original Script A girl once went to the fair to hire herself for servant. At last a funny-looking old gentleman engaged her, and took her home to his house. When she got there, he told her that he had something to teach her, for that in his house he had his own names for things. He said to her: "What will you call me?" "Master or mister, or whatever you please sir," says she. He said: "You must call me 'master of all masters.' And what would you call this?" pointing to his bed. "Bed or couch, or whatever you please, sir.” "No, that's my 'barnacle.' And what do you call these?" said he pointing to his pantaloons. "Breeches or trousers, or whatever you please, sir." "You must call them 'squibs and crackers.' And what would you call her?" pointing to the cat. "Cat or kit, or whatever you please, sir." "You must call her 'white-faced simminy.' And this now," showing the fire, "what would you call this?" "Fire or flame, or whatever you please, sir." "You must call it 'hot cockalorum,' and what this?" he went on, pointing to the water. "Water or wet, or whatever you please, sir." "No, 'pondalorum' is its name. And what do you call all this?" asked he, as he pointed to the house. "House or cottage, or whatever you please, sir." "You must call it 'high topper mountain.’” That very night the servant woke her master up in a fright and said: "Master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and put on your squibs and crackers. For white-faced simminy has got a spark of hot cockalorum on its tail, and unless you get some pondalorum high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum." …. That's all. http://www.worldoftales.com/European_folktales/English_folktale_42.html
  • 29. Final Script Page 1. One day an old man was walking through the woods as he often did during his summer, this particular day he ran into a girl. She said to the man “Hello good sir, I’m offering my services as a house maid. Are you interested?” “I want you to work for me and be my maid, but much will it cost me?” says the old man “why just 10 gold coins” says the woman. The man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a platinum coin and without saying anything flips it into the woman’s hand. The man begins to walk off and after a few seconds the woman begins to follow him. Page 2. They had been walking for days until they finally came to a clearing “This is my glorious house,” proclaims the man as he opens the door and lets the woman inside. Page 3. Once inside the house the man starts to explain, “now Miss there is a set of rules that exist in my house and now that you’re living here you must follow these rules” The woman without saying any words just nods happily in agreement. “Now what would you call me?” “Mr or Sir?’ the women responds, “No! You must call me master of all masters.” Page 4. “What would you call this my dear?” “Why it’s a bed of course,” says the woman walking over to the bed. “No girl, this is my barnacle!” responds the man walking over to join her next to the bed. Page 5. “And what would you call these my dear” says the man pointing down “Why they’re your trousers Sir… um Master of all masters” “No girl these are my squibs and crackers! I have a whole wardrobe of squibs and crackers.” Page 6. “And what would you call her my dear?” That’s your cat, what is her name? “Her name is white-faced simminy” “Well she’s very cute” says the woman as she reaches out to pet her, white-faced simminy hisses back in response. Page 7. “And what name would you give these my dear?” Pointing to the corner of the room “Well that’s your fireplace and right next to it is a bucket of water” “No, no, no all wrong, that is my hot cockalorum and sat next to it is my pondalorum.” Page 8. “And finally dear what name would you give to my glorious house?” “Well this is your cottage” “No my dear, did your mother teach you nothing? This is high topper mountain!” Page 9. “There are my rules my dear and if you follow them then we’re going to get on like a house on fire, now it is time for me to head to my barnacle, can you please feed white-faced simminy for me” “Of course master of all masters, sleep well.” Page 10. Later that night when everything was quiet suddenly the girl burst through the door into the old mans room “Master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and put on some squibs and crackers quick! “What is the problem my dear?” asks the old man still laid in bed, “White faced simminy has got a spark of hot cockalorum on his tail, and unless you get some pondalorum I’m afraid high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum.” Page 11. The man lazily got out of bed and walked out into the living room where the women was quivering in fear, The man slowly bent down and picked up the pondalorum and through it on top of white faced simminy who shrieks greatly, without saying anything the man calmly returns to his bedroom. “Oh and next time my dear put out the hot cockalorum before you go to barnacle.”
