The Met Office "Think Up" team advertises for roles committing 1-2 hours or up to a full day per week, and works in an office converted to an innovation-friendly space. They are inspired by Google's jam sessions where information is openly shared and everyone can contribute ideas. The team challenged the staid design of the Met Office website and created a more visually interesting one using the branding colors more creatively. Some of the innovations generated by the team are also briefly mentioned.
1. The Think Up Team at the Met Office and the 3 roles they advertise for members of
the team. People can commit to between an hour or two a week up to a day per week.
2. The Met Office “Think Up” team suite. They converted a standard office on site into
this innovation friendly space that can be used by the team and others for creative
sessions or time out events for teams.
3. How Google do it! A jamming session at Google where everyone is encouraged to
challenge the status quo – information is open to everyone – everyone is trusted – and
everyone a potential innovator.
4. What the Met Office – “Think up” Team is all about
5. The “Think up” team presence on the Met Office website. Their website was
like ours, visually uninspiring with just text in branding colours. They
challenged that and came up with this design using all the colours from the
branding template and found there was no reason why it had to look so staid
and boring – so they got permission to make it look like this.
6. Just some of the innovations that have come out of the “Think Up” team.
