The MemoryPAT is a portable appliance tester that can store the results of up to 2,000 tests in its memory. It has a backlit LCD display and can test class I, class II, and power cords. Test results include insulation resistance, earth continuity, and polarity. The device is battery powered and comes with leads, labels, and a USB cable to download test data to a computer.

5. Layout of LCD Display
Large 6 line backlit LCD display, with clear layout of test results.
6. Power on test
This test is done automatically when the Class I or Class II buttons are
pressed to make sure that the power switch on the appliance is in the
ON position. This is handy if you have forgotten to switch this ON. The
following message is displayed to remind you.
If the power switch is in the ON position then the following message is
displayed and the tester proceeds to carry out the test.
7. Class 1 test
When the Class 1 button is pressed this test will be
carried out and the display will show the test results
for the Insulation Resistance and Earth Continuity
tests as well as an overall Pass or Fail. The image
below shows the result of a test that shows a pass.
The results show that the Earth Continuity was 80 milli-ohms using the
default 1 metre lead length.
The Insulation Resistance was very high at > 20 M ohms when tested
using a voltage of 500V.
The test number on the last line (188 in this example) increments
automatically for each test.
8. Class II test
When the Class II button is pressed this test is
carried out and the display will show the test
results for the Insulation Resistance test as
well as an overall Pass or Fail. The image
below shows the result of a test that shows a
pass.
The results show that the Insulation Resistance was very high at > 20
M ohms when tested using a voltage of 500V.
The test number on the last line (1288 in this example) increments
automatically for each test.
9. Testing IEC leads
When the Power Cord button is pressed this
test will be carried out and the display will show
the test results for the Earth Continuity,
Insulation Resistance and Wiring tests as well
as an overall Pass or Fail. The image below
shows the result of a test that shows a pass.
The results show that the Earth Continuity was 80 milli-ohms using the
default 1 metre lead length.
The Insulation Resistance was very high at > 20 M ohms when tested
using a voltage of 500V.
The wiring test shows that the IEC lead is wired correctly.
10. Testing long mains extension leads
The Power Cord button is used for this test. The
display will show the test results for the Earth
Continuity, Insulation Resistance and Wiring
tests as well as an overall Pass or Fail. The
default pass limit is set for a 1 metre long cable.
The image below shows the result of a test on a
15 metre long mains extension lead that shows
a fail.
The results show that the Earth Continuity was 250 milli-ohms using
the default 1 metre lead length. This is a fail.
The Insulation Resistance was very high at > 20 M ohms when tested
using a voltage of 500V.
The wiring test shows that the IEC lead is wired correctly.
11. Adjusting for different lead lengths
Use the long lead button to adjust the
lead length to 15 meters.
After 1 press of the long lead
button the display will be as
shown here.
After 2 more presses the cursor
will move to the 15 metre setting
with a pass limit of 0.4 ohms.
This is the same as 400 milli
ohms.
Now when the test is redone, the
15 metre long extension lead will
pass, because we have adjusted
the limit appropriately.
12. Testing surge protected appliances
The default test voltage for Insulation Resistance
is 500V and this works well with the majority of
appliances. However ones fitted with surge
protection can fail when tested at this voltage.
This is due to the 500V test voltage being seen as
a potential surge by the protection devices which
start to limit at this level.
If this is the case, then use the
500V/250V button to set the
250V option.
Now when the test is done, the
Insulation Resistance is tested
at 250V.
13. Recalling results from Memory
The MemoryPAT saves the last 2000 test
results in internal memory. The user can
review these at any time by pressing the
Memory ◄ button found on the right of the
Display.
Pressing the Memory ◄ button again will
show older results while pressing the Memory
►button will show more recent test results. If
the Memory ◄ or the ► buttons are kept
pressed for more than 5 seconds, the unit will
step through the memory faster in steps of 10.
14. Downloading results to PC
All the test results in memory can be downloaded to a PC using a
FREE MemoryPAT Download Utility. There is information here on
how to download and install the software. Here is a video of the
software installation.
Once the software is installed, connect the
MemoryPAT to the PC using the USB cable
that is supplied. When you launch the
software the screen below is displayed.
