2. How Do We Convert Units?
1)
2)
You need a conversion factor
Use the conversion factor to get the units you want
Example:
You know something is 83 feet long, and you want to know how many meters that is.
First, find the conversion fact that has BOTH feet and meters in 1 m there are 3.28 feet
Our conversion factor is 1m/3.28ft
83 ft X 1m/3.28 ft 25.30m
USE THE UNITS TO GUIDE YOU! Always show your work in my class. Cross out the units
to make sure you are correct.
3. Practice (Yes, you can use calculator/phone)
Convert 137 cc to L (liters)
Conversion factor: in 1 liter, there are 1000 cc 1L/1000 cc
137 cc X 1L/1000 cc 0.137 L
4. Practice (Yes, you can use calculator/phone)
Convert 2373 seconds (s) to days
Conversion factor: in 1 day there are 86400 seconds 1 day/86400 s
2373 s X 1 day/86400 s 0.02747 days
5. Practice (Yes, you can use calculator/phone)
Convert your age to minutes (round your age to the nearest year)
Conversion factor: in 1 year there are 525949 minutes 1 year/ 525949 min
40 years X 525949 min/1 year 21,000,000 minutes
Worksheet….. SHOW ALL YOUR WORK, and ALWAYS WRITE THE UNITS AT
THE END.
