THE CERTIFICATION VALUE PROPOSITION
The medical tourism industry is where it is today, in large part, due to ground-breaking decisions
and efforts made on the backs of healthcare providers, doctors, facilitators, and forward-think-
ing business leaders, among many others.
The good news is that there are now experienced professionals who are available to convey
their expertise and provide advanced education and training by way of tailored medical tourism
certification programs.
Certification sets industry professionals apart from international competitors and communicates
to healthcare providers, employers, insurers and industry counterparts a specialized expertise
and commitment to sound and trusted medical tourism practices.

Courses have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and
Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the
joint sponsorship of the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.
AUDIENCE
Primary care physicians, travel destination surgeons and healthcare providers involved in
medical tourism.
STATEMENT OF NEED/PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Globalization of healthcare has opened opportunities for patients to travel for medical and
surgical care both domestically and internationally.
Primary care physicians, considered vital to continuity of care for traveling patients, lack formal
training in their perioperative care. Rarely do primary care physicians participate in acute
post-operative care. Instead, community hospitals and/or the surgical teams typically deliver
these services locally.
Medical/wellness travel is often international, which requires unique medical situations related to
risk of disease, travel vaccinations, and areas that private physicians may not be trained. These
courses address educational needs associated with medical/surgical travel, more specifically,
pre-travel, pre-operative, post-travel and post-operative care.
SAMPLE TOPICS
• Diagnostic tests, patient assessment and physical examination protocols to diagnose and
treat acute post-operative patient surgical complications
• Medical and geopolitical risk associated with international travel
• CME can be completed online -- www.medicaltourismcertification.com -- at the annual
World Medial Tourism Global Healthcare Congress, or during an approved webcast or
workshop
