                                The Voice of Cultural Heritage in Europe



                       Europa Nostra represents some 250 non-governmental organisations, 160 associate
                       organisations and 1400 individual members from more than 50 countries who are fully
                       committed to safeguarding Europe’s cultural heritage and landscapes. Together, we
                       provide a powerful network for dialogue and debate, we celebrate the best heritage
                       achievements; we campaign against threats to vulnerable heritage buildings, sites and
                       landscapes, and we lobby for sustainable policies and high quality standards with
                       regard to heritage. More on www.europanostra.org

    The Europa Nostra Annual Congress 2011
    The Europa Nostra Annual Congress will on June 8-11 in the World Heritage City of Amsterdam,
    bringing together Europa Nostra members and representatives of the entire cultural heritage movement
    from all over Europe. The European Heritage Awards Ceremony will be held at the Concertgebouw in
    Amsterdam with the participation of our President Plácido Domingo and the European Commissioner
    for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, Mrs Androulla Vassiliou. They will
    jointly present the 2011 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards to the
    deserved laureates who will come to Amsterdam from all over Europe.
    Europa Nostra Newsletter, December 2010
    The Newsletter informs readers about the latest news from our federation (policy issues, events, heritage
    at risk etc). It also contains heritage related news of European interest. These include policy
    developments, events and announcements from the European Institutions and European News from
    Europa Nostra's member organisations. In this way, the Newletter strives to be a two way communication
    platform to keep heritage professionals abreast of European heritage news.
    Heritage in Peril
    Europa Nostra campaigns side by side with its members, organisations and individuals, to oppose threats
    to cultural heritage objects and sites from all over Europe. Saving endangered heritage, be they
    monuments, buildings or landscapes, lies at the heart of Europa Nostra mission. EN aim to engage its
    members, policy and decision makers at all levels of government and in all manner of businesses, as well
    as the media and the public at large, in noticing the imminent danger so much of Europe’s cultural assets
    face, and in joining in its actions to defend and protect these unique treasures which enhance the quality
    of Europeans’ lives.
    Endangered Sites: Europe Nostra Calling for Action
    As Europe’s 500 million citizens think of vacations, their choices are open to ever wider horizons and
    ever new cultural heritage treasures yet to be discovered. Or not?
    Bruges Conference Brings a Declaration on European Cultural Heritage
    On 9 December, a large delegation of Europa Nostra representatives took part to the Conference
    “Cultural heritage: a resource for Europe. The benefits of interaction”, organised by the Belgian
    Presidency of the EU in Bruges.
    Has Allianoi’s Last Hour Struck? Placido Domingo Makes Urgent Appeal To Save Ancient City
    In support to its President’s appeal, Europa Nostra urgently calls upon concerned citizens from all over
    Europe and beyond to send a simple message against the flooding of Allianoi to the top decision-maker
    in Turkey, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan.
    Fountain Restoration in L'aquila Brings Hope to the City
    On 16 December 2010, Europa Nostra Italian Member organisation Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI)
    unveiled the restoration of the 99 Cannelle, a symbolic fountain for the citizens of L'Aquila, located as it is
    in the central square of this historic city.
    Rosia Montana: Heritage In Peril Public Hearing In Brussels
    On 30 November, Europa Nostra together with our Member organisation Pro Patrimonio (the National

Trust of Romania) and the Romanian MEP Darciana Sarbu, organised a public hearing in Brussels
          regarding Rosia Montana in Transylvania, Romania.
          Gazprom Tower Will not Loom over Historic St Petersburg
          St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko announced on 9 December that plans have been definitely
          cancelled to build the glass-and-steel Gazprom Tower on the edges of the historic centre of this World
          Heritage City.
          Will Wind Turbines be the View from Mont Saint Michel?
          Europa Nostra wrote a letter to the Tremblay Public Enquiry Inspector, but also to the Director of
          UNESCO and to the French President.

          Europa Nostra Heritage Tours 2011
          The Europa Nostra Heritage Tours are a service of Europa Nostra especially tailored for its individual
          members. They are a valuable tool for ensuring Europa Nostra’s presence and for conveying its concerns
          and activities throughout Europe. When joining a tour Members will not only experience the special
          features of these tours, but they will also support Europa Nostra financially. The latter has become a very
          welcome and increasingly important aspect of these tours.

EUROPA NOSTRA The Voice of Cultural Heritage in Europe Europa Nostra represents some 250 non-governmental organisations, 160 associate organisations and 1400 individual members from more than 50 countries who are fully committed to safeguarding Europe’s cultural heritage and landscapes. Together, we provide a powerful network for dialogue and debate, we celebrate the best heritage achievements; we campaign against threats to vulnerable heritage buildings, sites and landscapes, and we lobby for sustainable policies and high quality standards with regard to heritage. More on www.europanostra.org The Europa Nostra Annual Congress 2011 The Europa Nostra Annual Congress will on June 8-11 in the World Heritage City of Amsterdam, bringing together Europa Nostra members and representatives of the entire cultural heritage movement from all over Europe. The European Heritage Awards Ceremony will be held at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the participation of our President Plácido Domingo and the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, Mrs Androulla Vassiliou. They will jointly present the 2011 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards to the deserved laureates who will come to Amsterdam from all over Europe. Europa Nostra Newsletter, December 2010 The Newsletter informs readers about the latest news from our federation (policy issues, events, heritage at risk etc). It also contains heritage related news of European interest. These include policy developments, events and announcements from the European Institutions and European News from Europa Nostra's member organisations. In this way, the Newletter strives to be a two way communication platform to keep heritage professionals abreast of European heritage news. Heritage in Peril Europa Nostra campaigns side by side with its members, organisations and individuals, to oppose threats to cultural heritage objects and sites from all over Europe. Saving endangered heritage, be they monuments, buildings or landscapes, lies at the heart of Europa Nostra mission. EN aim to engage its members, policy and decision makers at all levels of government and in all manner of businesses, as well as the media and the public at large, in noticing the imminent danger so much of Europe’s cultural assets face, and in joining in its actions to defend and protect these unique treasures which enhance the quality of Europeans’ lives. Endangered Sites: Europe Nostra Calling for Action As Europe’s 500 million citizens think of vacations, their choices are open to ever wider horizons and ever new cultural heritage treasures yet to be discovered. Bruges Conference Brings a Declaration on European Cultural Heritage On 9 December, a large delegation of Europa Nostra representatives took part to the Conference “Cultural heritage: a resource for Europe. The benefits of interaction”, organised by the Belgian Presidency of the EU in Bruges. Has Allianoi’s Last Hour Struck? Placido Domingo Makes Urgent Appeal To Save Ancient City In support to its President’s appeal, Europa Nostra urgently calls upon concerned citizens from all over Europe and beyond to send a simple message against the flooding of Allianoi to the top decision-maker in Turkey, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan. Fountain Restoration in L'aquila Brings Hope to the City On 16 December 2010, Europa Nostra Italian Member organisation Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) unveiled the restoration of the 99 Cannelle, a symbolic fountain for the citizens of L'Aquila, located as it is in the central square of this historic city. Gazprom Tower Will not Loom over Historic St Petersburg St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko announced on 9 December that plans have been definitely cancelled to build the glass-and-steel Gazprom Tower on the edges of the historic centre of this World Heritage City. Will Wind Turbines be the View from Mont Saint Michel? Europa Nostra wrote a letter to the Tremblay Public Enquiry Inspector, but also to the Director of UNESCO and to the French President. The Best in Heritage - in Partnership with EUROPA NOSTRA 22-24 September 2011, Dubrovnik, Croatia Europa Nostra Heritage Tours 2011 The Europa Nostra Heritage Tours are a service of Europa Nostra especially tailored for its individual members. They are a valuable tool for ensuring Europa Nostra’s presence and for conveying its concerns and activities throughout Europe. When joining a tour Members will not only experience the special features of these tours, but they will also support Europa Nostra financially.
