EUROPA NOSTRA
The Voice of Cultural Heritage in Europe Europa Nostra represents some 250 non-governmental organisations, 160 associate organisations and 1400 individual members from more than 50 countries who are fully committed to safeguarding Europe’s cultural heritage and landscapes. Together, we provide a powerful network for dialogue and debate, we celebrate the best heritage achievements; we campaign against threats to vulnerable heritage buildings, sites and landscapes, and we lobby for sustainable policies and high quality standards with regard to heritage. More on www.europanostra.org The Europa Nostra Annual Congress 2011 The Europa Nostra Annual Congress will on June 8-11 in the World Heritage City of Amsterdam, bringing together Europa Nostra members and representatives of the entire cultural heritage movement from all over Europe. The European Heritage Awards Ceremony will be held at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the participation of our President Plácido Domingo and the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, Mrs Androulla Vassiliou. They will jointly present the 2011 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards to the deserved laureates who will come to Amsterdam from all over Europe. It also contains heritage related news of European interest. These include policy developments, events and announcements from the European Institutions and European News from Europa Nostra's member organisations. In this way, the Newletter strives to be a two way communication platform to keep heritage professionals abreast of European heritage news. Heritage in Peril Europa Nostra campaigns side by side with its members, organisations and individuals, to oppose threats to cultural heritage objects and sites from all over Europe. Saving endangered heritage, be they monuments, buildings or landscapes, lies at the heart of Europa Nostra mission. EN aim to engage its members, policy and decision makers at all levels of government and in all manner of businesses, as well as the media and the public at large, in noticing the imminent danger so much of Europe’s cultural assets face, and in joining in its actions to defend and protect these unique treasures which enhance the quality of Europeans’ lives. Endangered Sites: Europe Nostra Calling for Action As Europe’s 500 million citizens think of vacations, their choices are open to ever wider horizons and ever new cultural heritage treasures yet to be discovered.
