Spanish 1 Syllabus
2015­2016
This class introduces students to the Spanish language and to the cultures of those who speak it. Students learn
extensive vocabulary, verb forms and language patterns through a variety of oral, written and mass media activities.
Oral communication, grammar comprehension and cultural appreciation are the emphasis of this beginning level
through a wide spectrum of learning modalities. Here is a list of topics that will be covered in class:
1st 9 weeks

Ch 1A­ “Que te gusta hacer?”
vocab: Activities, grammar: Infinitives & Negatives
Ch 1B­ “Y tu, como eres?”
vocab: Personality traits, grammar: Adjectives
Ch 2A­ “Tu dia en la escuela”
vocab: The school day, grammar: Subject pronouns & ­​ar​ verbs
2nd 9 weeks
Ch 2B­ “Tu sala de clases”
vocab: The classroom, grammar: the verb ​estar, ​ plural nouns
Ch 3A­ “Desayuno o almuerzo?”
vocab: Foods and beverages, grammar:­​er​ and ­​ir​ verbs
Ch 3B­ “Para mantener la salud”
vocab: Healthy foods, grammar: the plural of adjectives, the verb ​ser
Ch 4A­ “Adonde vas?
vocab: Places to go, grammar: the verb​ ir, ​ asking questions
3rd 9 weeks
Ch 4B­ “Quieres ir conmigo?”
vocab: Activities outside of school, grammar: ​ir+a​ +infinitive, ​jugar
Ch 5A­ “Una fiesta de cumpleanos”
vocab: Families, celebrations, grammar: the verb ​tener
Ch 5B­ “Vamos a un restaurante!”
vocab: restaurant vocabulary, grammar: the verb ​venir
Ch 6A­ “En mi dormitorio”
vocab: bedroom items, colors, grammar: the superlative, stem changing verbs
4th 9 weeks
Ch 6B­ “Como es tu casa?”​vocab: rooms, chores, grammar: affirmative ​tu ​ commands
Ch 7A­ “Cuanto cuesta?”​vocab: shopping, grammar: demonstrative adjectives
Ch 7B­ “Que regalo!”​vocab: stores, gifts, grammar: the preterite of ​­ar​ verbs
Ch 8A­ “De vacationes”​vocab: travel and vacations, grammar: the preterite of ​­er​ and ​­ir ​ verbs
