3. Why look online?
• Newspaper classifieds do not include anywhere
close to the total number of jobs available.
• Employers want employees who know how to use
a computer so they are weeding out those who
don’t know how to use a computer by only listing
online.
• In a difficult job market, employers may not need
to do anything but list current openings on their
own website to get qualified applicants.

4. The Biggest Sites
You’ll want to familiarize yourself with one
of the big sites and frequent it regularly to
check for new posts.
• Careerbuilder.com
• Monster.com
• Indeed.com

5. Tips for Using Sites Like
Careerbuilders.com
• If you are visiting a
website regularly, always
use the Advanced Search
• Make sure to limit your
search under “posted
within” so you don’t get
repeats from before .”
• These sites often have
items also listed in
fresnobee.com/jobs

6. Hourly and
entry level jobs
fresno.craigslist.org
• Organized like a classified ad
• If you are only given the option to email that means
you must follow up that way so make sure you have
an appropriate email address
• It’s free for an employer to post here so you’ll find
plenty of jobs here that aren’t on the big sites
• Be careful of scams. Anything that sounds too good
to be true is just that

7. CalJOBS
• http://www.caljobs.ca.gov (choose
jobseeker)
• You have to create an account to even
browse here but it’s free for employers to
post so there’s a lot to find
• Same content as what you see displayed at
local career centers

• Use for professional networking as well as
job hunting
• 150 Million Users (2 new users per second)
• Users can apply to jobs directly
