The TCI Mentoring Program is aimed at improving the skills and
competences in cluster management of our members.
It seeks to match experienced cluster managers within the TCI
Network (mentors) with cluster newcomers in an early stage of
their careers (mentees).
“It helped me in having a global
perspective of cluster development and trying to
see what is happening in other regions.”
Alejandro Caicedo, Colombian Private Council

“Mentoring is not anymore about an
expert saying something and a newcomer
getting the knowledge, now it is
at least in two directions.”

TCI working groups:
TCI Network is the leading global network of main organizations and practitioners with deep expertise in clusters and competitiveness, who collaborate in a unique open, flexible and practical context to advance in the practice of competitiveness, innovation and cluster development.
Through its activities, TCI reaches out to 9,000 practitioners from development agencies, government departments, cluster organizations, academic institutions, companies and multilateral organizations in over 110 countries.
Founded in 1998, TCI is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with a global scope, open to members from all continents.
8
TCI has in its membership an incredibly rich set of capabilities and experience. Through a Mapping of Compentences we detected specific expertise and worked to make it visible and usable for the entire cluster community, weather you are looking for a speaker, an expert, a reviewer, an external advisor, or maybe even a project member or employee with a concrete background, with experience in a certain country or fluent in a concrete language, members of TCI can get in direct contact through our website. This initiative helped TCI to showcase itself as an organized community of professionals.
10
As a network we want to contribute to the discussions about the next stage of cluster policy in Europe. In our view the focus of a new strategy should be on enhancing delivery and broadening impact. We believe the main priority for effective cluster policy in Europe is better implementation and a more strategic and coordinated use of cluster policies, not a different direction.
Our members have identified five areas as critical to improve the practice of cluster-based economic development in Europe. Especially in the first two, we see the Commission in a leading role; in the others the Commission can further develop its own programs but also influence policy across EU member states and regions.
Progress needs to be based on collaboration between the practitioners’ community, the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders that can make a contribution.
Proposal for Interreg to advance in the development of cluster policy and the implementation of programs within a number of members of TCI (and others).
12
Following a first open call, TCI has gathered a pool of 17 experienced cluster practitioners from all over the world having worked in many different industry areas.
On a regular monthly basis and through online dialogue, our mentors will offer support to mentees looking for guidance in their learning journey to become professional cluster managers.
