2. Message from the Mayor
On behalf of
the Warringah
community, I would
like to wish you all
a fabulous 2014
Seniors Week.
Warringah Council
has again gone
all-out and
organised a
diverse program of
activities. So much
so, that the week
is now several weeks, so I encourage you all to
get out and try something old or new. And most
importantly, grab a friend! More the merrier I
say!
Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 March 2014 marks
56 years of Seniors Week celebrations in NSW,
which continues to be the highlight of the year
for countless older Australians. It is reputedly
the largest celebration for people over 60 in the
southern hemisphere.
Seniors Week promotes healthy ageing and
celebrates the valuable contribution older
citizens make to our community. In my role as
Mayor, I get to meet many of you who work in
retirement. We are very blessed on the northern
beaches to have many skilled senior citizens who
volunteer their time to assist local services and
those less fortunate than themselves.
Seniors Week is an opportunity for Council
and the community to acknowledge and
celebrate our older citizens and show you our
appreciation. We are delighted to offer over 60
activities and events this year, most of which are
free!
You may wish to participate in our āCoo-ee
Marchā or update your digital camera skills;
have a go at cardio tennis or Lifeball at our new
recreation venue; get tips on environmentally-
friendly gift wrapping; see a woodturning
demonstration; or join a lively, talented panel
discussing Bucket Lists and how to fulļ¬l your
dreams in retirement.
This booklet provides you with all the details
of this yearās activities, brought to you by
Warringah Council, Dee Why RSL, community
groups and local businesses. Iād like to thank
everyone involved for their contributions
towards the success of our program.
2014 Seniors Week gives you many opportunities
to have fun, ļ¬nd a brand new passion, meet lots
of people and most of all enjoy yourself!
Michael Regan
Mayor of Warringah
LIVING WELL - WARRINGAH
Councilās Ageing Strategy āLiving Well Warringahā report was
developed as a guide for Council to identify the needs of its older
residents and to determine resources towards improving their quality
of life.
The report resulted from extensive research, analysis and
conversations with seniors, their families, carers and key community
agencies. Following a period of Public Exhibition which drew a
number of comments from the community, the Strategy is now being
submitted for Council Approval.
The themes utilised in the āLiving Well Warringahā were:
ā¢ Where we live
ā¢ Getting out and about
ā¢ Community involvement and lifelong learning
ā¢ Healthy lifestyles
ā¢ Access to care and support
The report identiļ¬es a number of strategic objectives which Council
will incorporate in its planning, and consequently report back to the
community on the outcomes.
If you would like to know more about Councilās Strategy and would
like a copy of this report please contact Aged Services on 9942 2563
or email communityagedservices@warringah.nsw.gov.au
