Needs and Wants Needs: Things that people must have to live are called needs. Every person needs food, clothing, love, and shelter. Shelter is a place where people live. Wants: Wants are things people would like to have but do not need in order to live. People cannot buy everything that they want. Often they have to make a choice. Example: I need food to live. I want ice cream tonight.
