Evaluation for video
1. Conventions from other texts- Editing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_g3pT8n
ac8
• Throughout we used slow
paused editing as this is typical
of folk music such as ‘Charlie
Simpson’s’ ‘Down Down Down’
and ‘Get cape wear Cape fly’s’ ‘I
spy’. As most folk music is slow
paused (including Mad World by
Gary Jules), we mimicked this
through the slow pause of the
editing. You can see this in our http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r80Q4XN
video when we cut from 50o&ob=av2n
performance to narrative ,as we
keep every clip on for a
substantial amount of time.
2. Conventions of other Videos - lighting
Charlie Simpson- ‘Down Down Down’
• we used high key natural
lighting inspired by other
folk music videos such as
‘Never Shout Never’ ‘What
is love’ and Charlie
Simpson’s ‘Down Down
Down’ . This worked well Our Video
because it got rid of
shadows and give it a more
peaceful feel which was
important as Folk music has
connotations of peace.
3. Conventions of other videos –
Switch between narrative and
performance.
• We also had a performance piece in
the video as this is normally
common of music videos such as
‘Charlie Simpson’s ‘Down Down
Down’ or ‘Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s
video ‘I Spy’. We switched between
the narrative (being the scenes
were the couple are arguing) and
the performance (being the scenes
in the church with the singer and
piano player). This technique helps
keep the audience engaged as they
are not just viewing the same thing
but are given more of a variety.
4. Conventions of other videos –
Switch between narrative and
performance.
• Here is an example of
how it was used in
Charlie Simpson’s
‘Down Down Down’.
This video switched
between a performance
piece and scene were a
women is being abused.
6. Websites which inspired my website –
Colour scheme
• We chose to use the colour
scheme of grey, black, white
and red which the websites of
‘Gary Jules’ and ‘Get cape
wear Cape Fly’ used . This
gave it a more modern street
feel which linked to the street
scene in our video. We used
this modern street style as the
Cities has connotations of
excitement and youth. This
helped aim the website at
teenagers. This helped us aim
our product at a teenage
audience which is Gary Jules
and Get cape wear cape flies
audience.
7. How was my text style inspired
From these sites text style
(especially the logos) I
decided a soft looking round
text style would be
appropriate for my website to
aim it at folk fans.
8. General web site and music website
conventions I used
Banner from Gary Jules website
• In my own web site I borrowed the idea of
having a banner from Gary Jules website. This
was effective to have ,as this would give the
audience a convenient way of navigating
through the website.
10. Grey ,Black, white
and red colour
scheme taken from
My website Soft looking round text I
took from Charlie
Simpsons website
Gary Jules's website
and Get Cape Wear
Cape fly’s
Banner which I
took inspiration
from ‘Gary Jules’
site
11. Digi Pack Colour Scheme
• Most Music
Websites will mimic
the CD in colour
scheme. Here is an
example of Get
Cape wear cape
flies CD and
website.
12. Didgi pack colour scheme
• So we used the same colour scheme of red
black white and grey for the album and the
website.
13. How did the didgi pack and CD relate
to the video
• For the website I used the
colour grey as the
dominant colour which
give it a clear link to our
video as it relates to the
scene in the street with
the couple arguing . The
red also matched the red
brick buildings from the
video. For the didgi Pack I
referenced the video
through screen grabs of
the street scene and the
shot of the sky.
14. Camera
For the second couple scene I helped record
some of the shots. For this it took a few
I also set up the camera
15. The Editing process Logging and
capturing
• Because we had recorded onto a video tape
we needed to log and capture this onto the
Computer. For this we logged and captured a
piece at a time. So we would capture a
extreme close up of the keyboard playing the
verse, then the chorus and etc.
16. The editing process - Cutting
• I used the cutting to tool to cut shots which
were too long. This was useful as some of the
captured scenes would have lost the
audiences interest because they were too
long. To do this I had to select this tool then
cut in through the clip at the right time.
17. The editing process- Transitions
• I used some of the fading effects to make
shots transitioned smoothly between each
other. I also used the faders to make sense go
into each other smoothly. This was used in the
shots from … to … . These made the video
transition more smooth as we wanted the
audience to feel relaxed and not disorientated
by sharp cuts.
18. Word press
• I used ‘Word Press’ to show all my research
and planning.
19. You tube
• We also used the site ‘You tube’ to find other
products of the same genre to give us
inspiration for the video. This was useful as we
could watch them and pause them on key
scenes.
20. Dream whether
• We designing the website I used photo shop
to create the visuals of the site and dream
weaver to make it.
22. Feedback-Bus
• We had mixed
responses about the
bus traveling
backwards. We were
told it gave it an
interesting effect, but
was out of place and
didn’t relate to the
narrative making it
more confusing.
23. Feedback-narrative
• From the feedback I have learnt
that it is important to make sure
the story line comes across
clearly which was a problem
with our music video some of
the scenes seem a bit out of
place such as the shots with the
birds and the boat shot. If we
had been able to get more shots
of the narrative and extended
the story line we could have
easily cut these out and have
made the video more
entertaining.
24. Feedback Clouds
• We were told that the
speed up effects was
visually pleasing. It
also helped went well
with the title ‘Mad
World’ ,as it amplified
this made world.
25. Feedback -
• . The long shots
detached the audience
from the characters
which was not
intended. Extreme close
ups could have made
the audience feel more
sympathy for the
characters which would
make the audience
more engaged.
26. Feedback-Narrative
• Although we were trying to get
across that the second couples
in the video were a happy
couple who were contrasting the
first this did not come across
properly and looked out of
place. If we had extended the
story of the first couple and
maybe shown more scenes of
with them so we could be more
aware of the context of why
they are arguing the audience
may have felt more close to the
characters.
