Photographic Practise
Project Proposal
(P2, P3, M2, M3)
Candidate name: Liam Belch

2. I will be going to Salford Quays to
get pictures for the theme:
Architectural Exploration of
Salford quays. It is a modern and
iconic place for Salford with
many different contrasting and
complementing building styles I
will be exploring this in the way I
take pictures. There are of course
the iconic buildings such as the
Lowry and The imperial war
museum and media Village and
Media city which host many
radio stations and BBC Studios
In particular I would like to
capture the atmosphere and the
elements of weather and light in
my work. I believe that getting
pictures of Salford quays in
certain weather or a certain time
of the day can have an adverse
effect on the final image.

4. I will be producing 10 final edited
images from a selection of about
100 – 200 images. The large
amount of pictures could be
tedious to go through but it’s
always better to have a large
amount of pictures to be sure
that there is a good diverse
amount of pictures to select from
with different angles, effects and
lighting. I will be taking pictures
of the architecture and overall
View of landscapes from and
around Salford Quays
It is a great place to get pictures
for urban landscapes because
there is a mixture of old and new
within the architecture and all
around the area itself

5. I want to take these pictures
because I find it interesting to
Explore an urban area mixed with
old and modern buildings. The
contrasting styles creates a
unique and unusual look and I
wish to capture this as I believe
that the pictures could be rather
striking and effective. I am
inspired by photographers like
Ansel adams and Charlie Waite.
Ansel adams photography is all in
black and white due to the
technology available at the time
but I believe that this helps to
create focus on the picture itself
and its contents and layers rather
than focusing on colour, Charlie
Waite's photographs are rather
painterly and have a dreamy
hazy look to them I think this is a
nice relaxing and unusual style to
go for so I find it very interesting.

6. I will be using a Nikon D3100
DSLR Camera to capture my
images and will most likely use
the manual setting because I
believe that when placed on
auto you’re basically just a
tripod that presses a button,
focusing the camera and
settings manually in a proper
way can create an array of
different images with varied
styles and effects. When using
automatic it is pretty much
guaranteed that the image
itself will be clear but it is
always more rewarding
knowing that you took a well
focused and Set picture.

7. I will include a lot of close-
ups to the architecture and
buildings to show the design
and I will also be taking
pictures from high up on
buildings to get a view of
the surrounding area to
show the contrast with
modern and old, Residential
and commercial areas. My
shutter speed will remain
continuously normal
because if there are a lot of
people walking around the
pictures they may ruin it
with a blur

8. Date / time / locationI will be going
November 19th
from
about 9.30 – 12.30 so
that it wont be busy
but I will also visit the
quays before hand
myself and get some
other pictures in
different weather
conditions and at night
to make sure that the
images I capture have
a clear and consistent
range and diversity of
effects and styles.
