TEST
• Specific type of measuring instrument whose
general characteristic is that, it forces

indications of pupil’s skill, knowledge, attitude
etc. (e.g true or false test, essay exam,
attitude scales, short answer test, midterms,

(Bradfield and moredock , p. 44)
Classification of Test for Research
Purpose
A. According to Standardization
1. Standard Test – content has been
selected and checked empirically, norms have
been established, for which uniform methods of
administration and scoring have been
developed, and which may be scored with high
degree of objectivity. (Good, p.565)
Ex. Intelligence Test, Aptitude Test, Interest
Inventories
2. Non-Standard Test – usually prepared by
teachers to measure the achievements of their
students or pupils in the subjects they are
teaching for marking and promotion purposes.
Ex. Teacher made test, True or False Test, Essay
Test, Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice, Matching
etc.

knowledge, skill, ability, understanding and
other outcomes in subjects taught in school. Ex.
Achievement Test.
Characteristics of Test

it aims to measure.
a. Test items are taken from the subject of the test.
b. It must correlate highly with a similar test of
already known validity
c. It must be able to predict performance of
individuals in a subject which the test is being made.
d. Test must be able to place an individual to which
he really belongs.
• Reliability – test that gives the same
measurement to the same individuals or groups.
a. Adequacy – test is long enough to contain properly
selected representative items of behavior or knowledge to be
measured.
b. Objectivity – a test paper will give the same score no
matter who will score it, or scored by same person at different
times.
c. Procedure in administering the test must be the
