1. Gender stereotypes based on ethnicity have always been present in our society.
Though many believe that examples of gender stereotyping are irregular and
beginning to decline, it is still an ever present problem in today’s culture.
Although acts of the gender stereotypes are far less blatant than previous
generations, such stereotypes are still present as seen through the advertising
industry.
“Hidden” messages were given through multi media nowadays such as gender
stereotyping. Gender and stereotypes go hand in hand unfortunately, for
example, a common gender stereotype is that males are stronger than females so
that females were unable to do stuffs that male can do. Although people may
agree that, but we all know that the statement is not true.
However, the advertisement above is an advertisement that promotes the milk
whereas they also make fun of the poor husband who becomes a victim to his
terrible wife who is on her period. The line “I’m sorry I listened to what you said
and not what you meant” is taken as a joke to everyone. Everyone knows that
when women are on their period they will suddenly become emotional or happy
without any reasons. Woman who sustain the emotional drama while on her
period isn’t really a stereotype, it’s based on a reasonable fact.
In the advertisement, the message is directed towards the lose situations that
women put their men through. Women rant on their husband or boyfriend when
they’re having periods. Apparently, men do feel like they did nothing wrong, but
in the same time women did nothing wrong either. They don’t do it on purpose
because they can’t control it any. As the assumptions, this advertisement helps
men speak out the biased condition that women put them through.
