1. In my evaluation I am going to talk about the front cover, content page and double page spread of
my music magazine which I was able to create. I have created a R&B magazine for a young male
audience that will help them learn more into the R&B culture and know more about what’s going on
with the R&B music in the present. It’s a way of them engaging more with the celebrities and them
finding out a bit more information about them and their style of music.
My magazine has numerous conventions that are shared with other music magazines from the same
genre. The idea of having the main featured artist as the main image on my front over and making
sure it’s only one artists resembles the layout of VIBE magazine as they only feature their main
feature artist on their front cover as well. I chose to use the particular convention because it made it
easier and clear to the reader who the magazine was mainly about and to give them an appreciation
of the artist that’s featured. By the audience carrying on a looking at the magazine front cover they
would have been able to read the main sell-line which normally has something to do with the main
image and in my magazine it does. It gives the reader and insight on the article that is included inside
the magazine, normally placed on the double page spread.
My content page also shares a number of codes and conventions of an R&B music magazine. Such as
one main image and little information so that it doesn’t distract the audience of the artist in the
image but still gives them an idea of what’s going to be situated in the magazine. I have decided to
keep to the convention so that my target audience feels as if they are reading an R&B magazine and
are able to read the information given and be eager to read on. Equally I feel that it was important to
keep the convention going in my magazine so that the audience knew that the magazine they were
reading was an R&B magazine and the fact that the content was written in a list shows that the
magazine is full of information and has a lot of content involved. I also inverted my content page as
well to make it different to the normal R&B music magazine. I changed it around by having the
content over the bottom of the image instead of around it. This change can be a change to the R&B
magazine reader but it could entice them to want to read on. Magazine such as VIBE place the
content on their contents page around the main image to make sure it stays the centre of attention
but in my magazine contents page I have placed the content on the bottom of the page, written on
top of the image. This is a different approach to maintaining the audience’s attention. As their eyes
will be set on the image at first but as the information is placed at the bottom it will stay in their
memory throughout reading the magazine.
As for my double page spread it stays within
