The Opportunity

This bank has a rich history dating back several decades and has an
established reputation for excellence in the areas of Corporate and
Commercial Banking, Trade Finance and Treasury. Given the banks
pedigree in the region it has developed a strong market position, is
liquid and well capitalized. A trusted name and respected brand; this
institution possesses strong relationships in the market and is often
the banking partner of choice for many family offices and local
organizations. They are also the partner-of-choice for leading global
counterparties in regional syndications.

Strategically positioned this forward looking institution is hiring a
Head of Large Corporates to drive its business strategy across the
United Arab Emirates. As the bank continues to evolve the emphasis
will initially be on creating efficiencies and optimizing the current
team. As there are only a handful of banks of this vintage, the
Corporate Bank has a strong bastion of clients which require high
touch bespoke service. The Head of Large Corporates will be focused
on delivering quality service and improving the ability of the team to
deliver sophisticated Trade Finance, Treasury, Transactional Banking,
Structured Finance and Loan Syndication to clients with a turnover of
more than one billion AED in revenue, including Government entities
of this size.

Reporting directly to the Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking
the Head of Large Corporates will be part of a change initiative that
will optimize the team’s performance. Managing a team of eight direct
reports the successful candidate will have a strong sense of talent
management and performance improvement.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for given strategic direction
to each segment under their span of control, including Large
Corporate, Government, Debt Capital Markets and Structured Finance.
The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the Head of
Corporate Banking to streamline the Corporate Bank’s processes and
will play a key role in developing the bank’s best practices for the 21st
Century. A deep understanding of operations, front office, regulation,
risk, client management, team building and related competencies will
be required. The Head of Large Corporates will have to be holistic in
their approach to the assignment and will possess a deep and
commanding knowledge of Corporate Banking complemented by the
ability to provide leadership to their team.

The Role

The Head of Large Corporates will be the champion of the banks brand
and will be responsible for institutions positioning in the segment.
They will possess the vision for growth within the division and will
have a clear direction on where the segment is heading. As the
custodian of the Large Corporates sector the chosen candidate will be
intimately in tune with market developments and will be able to adjust
the credit portfolio as required by the risk appetite of the bank. The
verve and brio with which the successful candidate develops the
business must be tempered by a deep understanding of risk.

The incumbent will be responsible for giving direction to their team.
The ability to set clear goals and a working knowledge of success
metrics will be critical to drive the team to the next level. They will be
responsible for the setting and achievement of all targets with full
accountability for results. As the Head of Large Corporates develops
the team they will be responsible for ensuring Emirtization is
championed.

The preferred candidate will have the ability to develop and groom the
next generation of leaders for the bank. Adhering to the highest ethical
standards the incumbent will ensure all decision making is unbiased
and that a system based on merit is implemented. They will create an
environment which motivates and energizes the team.

The Head of Large Corporates will lead the development of a team
which can effectively cross sell to its customers with a keen eye for
developing the off balance sheet side of the business. Taking more of a
consultative approach the team will be recognized for its high quality
staff who are able to provide solutions and create value for their
clients. The successful candidate will have the ability to structure and
approve complex transactions which help ensure profitability and are
in line with the credit appetite of the bank.

The Head of Large Corporates will be expected to lead the
relationships of the bank with a focus on corporate banking, treasury
and trade products, syndication mandates, creating club deals,
providing assistance on structured transactions and sell down large
transactions. They will work closely with the banks leadership to
deliver the Corporate banking goals for the institution. Innovative and
insightful the chosen candidate will develop new strategies or identify
tried and tested methodologies that work with a macro view of
increasing both the top and bottom line of the bank’s business.

The Head of Large Corporates is a member of the Marketing
Committee and various other committees as required.

Candidate Qualifications

Key Strengths and Abilities
    Candidates for the role of Head of Large Corporates should have;

     12+ years working in Corporate or Wholesale banking
      environment with direct exposure to large organizations with
      an annual turnover of more than one billion AED per year.
     Commanding knowledge of Treasury, Trade Finance, Loan
      Syndication, Structured Finance and Cash Management.
     Exposure to process improvement and preferably would have
      successfully increased the performance of a team by creating
      efficiency or streamlining processes.
     Deep understanding of UAE banking market, its clients and the
      subtleties of the region’s relationships.
     Experience driving off balance sheet growth of a corporate or
      wholesale bank.
     Experience with Talent Management and Performance
      Improvement Projects.
     Proven leadership capabilities and ability to create consensus
      with direct reports, managers and senior stakeholders.
     Excellent communication skills.
     Ambition and drive to develop as a Manager.

Experience and Credentials Required

    The preferred candidate will have more than 12 years of prior
    experience in corporate banking with a history of creating tangible
    results. Candidates should be comfortable managing a team and
    are aspire to become better people managers. An attested
    university degree is mandatory and will be required for this
    position. Additional qualifications such as CFA, MBA, or equivalent
    will be valued in this position but are not mandatory for the right
    candidate.

Shane is a leading Executive Search Consultant in the Middle East
Region and is the Managing Director of Shane Phillips Consultants, a
local boutique search firm. Given his passion for the employment
market, Shane has his own show on Dubai Eye 103.8 every Thursdays
at 8pm called “Eye on Careers”. Shane is also a monthly writer for CEO
Magazine, Global Citizen Magazine and an expert in Senior Executive
job placement.

Shane has an MBA from London Business School, and an
undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of British
Columbia. He is a Non Executive Board Member of Fortis Group
Holdings and Founder of Big Brothers Big Sisters UAE. He was
formerly a Board Member of the Canadian Business Council, President
of the Club for Canadians and a volunteer with Special Families
Support Group.

Head of Large Corporates UAE Based Bank The Opportunity This bank has a rich history dating back several decades and has an established reputation for excellence in the areas of Corporate and Commercial Banking, Trade Finance and Treasury. Given the banks pedigree in the region it has developed a strong market position, is liquid and well capitalized. A trusted name and respected brand; this institution possesses strong relationships in the market and is often the banking partner of choice for many family offices and local organizations. They are also the partner-of-choice for leading global counterparties in regional syndications. Strategically positioned this forward looking institution is hiring a Head of Large Corporates to drive its business strategy across the United Arab Emirates. As the bank continues to evolve the emphasis will initially be on creating efficiencies and optimizing the current team. As there are only a handful of banks of this vintage, the Corporate Bank has a strong bastion of clients which require high touch bespoke service. The Head of Large Corporates will be focused on delivering quality service and improving the ability of the team to deliver sophisticated Trade Finance, Treasury, Transactional Banking, Structured Finance and Loan Syndication to clients with a turnover of more than one billion AED in revenue, including Government entities of this size. Reporting directly to the Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking the Head of Large Corporates will be part of a change initiative that will optimize the team’s performance. Managing a team of eight direct reports the successful candidate will have a strong sense of talent management and performance improvement. The chosen candidate will be responsible for given strategic direction to each segment under their span of control, including Large Corporate, Government, Debt Capital Markets and Structured Finance. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with the Head of Corporate Banking to streamline the Corporate Bank’s processes and will play a key role in developing the bank’s best practices for the 21st Century. A deep understanding of operations, front office, regulation, risk, client management, team building and related competencies will be required. The Head of Large Corporates will have to be holistic in their approach to the assignment and will possess a deep and commanding knowledge of Corporate Banking complemented by the ability to provide leadership to their team.
  • 4. Head of Large Corporates UAE Based Bank The Role The Head of Large Corporates will be the champion of the banks brand and will be responsible for institutions positioning in the segment. They will possess the vision for growth within the division and will have a clear direction on where the segment is heading. As the custodian of the Large Corporates sector the chosen candidate will be intimately in tune with market developments and will be able to adjust the credit portfolio as required by the risk appetite of the bank. The verve and brio with which the successful candidate develops the business must be tempered by a deep understanding of risk. The incumbent will be responsible for giving direction to their team. The ability to set clear goals and a working knowledge of success metrics will be critical to drive the team to the next level. They will be responsible for the setting and achievement of all targets with full accountability for results. As the Head of Large Corporates develops the team they will be responsible for ensuring Emirtization is championed. The preferred candidate will have the ability to develop and groom the next generation of leaders for the bank. Adhering to the highest ethical standards the incumbent will ensure all decision making is unbiased and that a system based on merit is implemented. They will create an environment which motivates and energizes the team. The Head of Large Corporates will lead the development of a team which can effectively cross sell to its customers with a keen eye for developing the off balance sheet side of the business. Taking more of a consultative approach the team will be recognized for its high quality staff who are able to provide solutions and create value for their clients. The successful candidate will have the ability to structure and approve complex transactions which help ensure profitability and are in line with the credit appetite of the bank. The Head of Large Corporates will be expected to lead the relationships of the bank with a focus on corporate banking, treasury and trade products, syndication mandates, creating club deals, providing assistance on structured transactions and sell down large transactions. They will work closely with the banks leadership to deliver the Corporate banking goals for the institution. Innovative and insightful the chosen candidate will develop new strategies or identify tried and tested methodologies that work with a macro view of increasing both the top and bottom line of the bank’s business. The Head of Large Corporates is a member of the Marketing Committee and various other committees as required.

Head of Large Corporates UAE Based Bank Candidate Qualifications Key Strengths and Abilities Candidates for the role of Head of Large Corporates should have;  12+ years working in Corporate or Wholesale banking environment with direct exposure to large organizations with an annual turnover of more than one billion AED per year.  Commanding knowledge of Treasury, Trade Finance, Loan Syndication, Structured Finance and Cash Management.  Exposure to process improvement and preferably would have successfully increased the performance of a team by creating efficiency or streamlining processes.  Deep understanding of UAE banking market, its clients and the subtleties of the region’s relationships.  Experience driving off balance sheet growth of a corporate or wholesale bank.  Experience with Talent Management and Performance Improvement Projects.  Proven leadership capabilities and ability to create consensus with direct reports, managers and senior stakeholders.  Excellent communication skills.  Ambition and drive to develop as a Manager. Experience and Credentials Required The preferred candidate will have more than 12 years of prior experience in corporate banking with a history of creating tangible results. Candidates should be comfortable managing a team and are aspire to become better people managers. An attested university degree is mandatory and will be required for this position. Additional qualifications such as CFA, MBA, or equivalent will be valued in this position but are not mandatory for the right candidate.
