Editor's Notes

  1. NOTES: What does ServiceMesh do… ServiceMesh sells enterprise software called the Agility Platform. We sell to the Global 2000. Regarding software category… we use the Gartner category description of “Cloud Management Platform” for convenience… but actually we do much more than Gartner’s rather tactical description of managing infrastructure-centric cloud workloads. Instead, we’ve taken a very application-centric approach, and we provide unique capabilities in terms of places policy-driven governance, security, and lifecycle management. Our objective is really to help large enterprises adopt new “cloud-based IT operating models”, which let’s them capitalize on the agility and cost savings possible with a portfolio of cloud-based “as-a-service” offerings. …. which includes everything from fully governed, standardized platforms that are leveraged across the enterprise, to moving business-critical applications securely into a hybrid cloud. Our Agility Platform is also cloud agnostic, which is an important aspect of our value prop. We support a long list of both private and public cloud technologies, and enable you to have portability… across any of them. We’re a global company with offices and staff in several major markets. Our headquarters is located in LA. And we have Top 500 global enterprise customers…. in NA, EMEA, and AP. Most operate in highly regulated industries and have revenues in the 10’s or 100’s of billions annually. ==================================
  2. NOTES: A central aspect of Agility Platform’s value prop is to align business-level IT requests with the applications, IT Services, and supporting infrastructure to fulfill them on-demand. Agility Platform is the “control plane” to create and enforce the policies, service levels, and associated business/IT context. Agility Platform provides the governance for application orchestration and delivery.
  3. NOTES: That solution is what we’re calling “Common Application Platforms”, and it provides an initial catalyst to start aligning both groups and delivering value to each. What “Common Application Platforms” allow you to do, is embed IT Ops best practices around the governance and configuration of the underlying infrastructure and platforms that your Dev and Test teams need to do their work. These best practice are captured in this pre-configured, production-like “container” for the application code… that can be used upstream by Dev and Test groups from the beginning. This way, the coding and testing work is always aligned to its eventual production deployment environment. That way, the two are always kept in sync, and the chance for configuration related-defects to be introduced into production are reduced dramatically.  Both teams get involved in creating and using these CAP, and both teams benefit…. IT Ops gets involved now from the very beginning… rather than just waiting for something to be thrown over the wall at them:Create standardized, multi-tier enterprise application stacks… which can include very complex topologiesEmbed standard SOE agents and utilitiesGovern and define security zone requirements and operational SLAs… which by the way can vary across different roles or teams across the SDLCDev get to benefit as well:Deploy to High fidelity production-like environments… from the very beginning… that are available self-service and on-demand… directly from their current IDENo longer has to worry about configuring app stacks before they can do their work So both teams get involved, and both teams benefit.
  4. So how can you leverage all these policy controls?  From a DevOps perspective, you can create policies that enforce the use of CAPs across each of the different roles in the SDLC. That’s represented in this slide with the three different columns representing Dev, QA, and Staging. This just a simplified representation… but for example:  … you can create Dev policies that allow CAPs to be deployed to Amazon EC2 for Dev teams that don’t use live customer data, but then apply a separate QA policy that RESTRICTS CAP deployments only to secure private cloud when QA testersARE using live customer data. ….you can automatically setup different levels of monitoring, auditing, and security zones for each role.… you can enable autoscaling policies….for example enable autoscaling for QA if their doing isolated load testing…. But disable it for Dev There’s significant flexibility in terms of what you can do here with policies. It’s also important to note that you can also “lock down” key aspects of your CAP… which is shown at the bottom. That includes keeping some things consistent and pre-configured…. like:Your application topology configurationYour SOE components…such as agents and utilities Together… you’ve got a lot of power at your disposal to control the consistency and the customization of your CAPs…all via policy.  ===========================
  5. NOTES: What we’re offering in our DevOps Accelerator solution… is the ability for you to create and implement your own Common Application Platforms across your existing SDLC toolchain, while leveraging your organizations preferred approach to private, public or hybrid clouds. What you will get:Increase the speed and frequency of your software releases Automate workflows further across the tool chainFully govern and enforce common application platforms all the way across your SDLCSignificantly lower your operating cost by leveraging the private and/or public clouds your organization is adopting…. and enable portability across those different clouds Let me pause there. If no questions…. Let’s me just highlight a few key capabilities a bit further before showing you a demo.  ===========================
