Balpara Project Highlights 2015
1.
2. RENEWABLES
BALPARA’S INVOLVEMENT
Design of 66kV line to supply the
52 wind turbines, generating
106.6 megawatts.
THE PROJECT
The Bald Hills Wind Farm is
connected to the national
electricity grid by a new 27km
66kV powerline constructed on
concrete poles.

3. UNDERGROUND RESIDENTIAL DISTRIBUTION
PROJECT SCOPE
Balpara successfully provided a
turn-key solution on this URD
project in the Geelong suburb of
Marshall for UP Property.
Balpara performed the electrical
design, which included NBN
requirements, project
management, construction and
detailing of the as-builts.

4. PUBLIC LIGHTING
PROJECT SCOPE
Working closely with VicRoads,
Balpara successfully completed the
Dingley Bypass project in 2015.
Balpara was contracted to perform
electrical design, drafting and
surveying of the overhead line
22kV-66kV and undergrounding
LV infrastructure as well as project
management of construction by
LendLease on behalf of ZNX.

5. VEDN ACCREDITATION
VEDN AUDITING & DETAILING
Balpara continues to be involved in the undergrounding of all the pillars in the
Doncaster Donvale region through the provision of detailing and
VEDN accredited auditing services, both civil and electrical.

6. BUSHFIRE MITIGATION
PROJECT SCOPE
Balpara provided electrical design
and drafting to support Powercor's
bushfire mitigation plan.
Our involvement ensured the
delivery of Armor Rods and
Dampers to all poles within high
risk fire regions, minimising fire risk
and the likelihood of outages.

7. PUBLIC LIGHTING AS3000
THE PROJECT
Hobsons Bay City Council requested
Balpara to investigate the existing lighting
level along Pier Street, Altona and to
provide two possible new lighting
solutions for both existing and proposed
pedestrian crossings, in line with AS 1158.

SOLUTION
Balpara’s more expensive solution to
add two new poles and replace
existing was selected as the higher
Lux rating meant that pedestrians
were easier to spot by incoming and
outgoing busy.
8. SURVEYING
PROJECT SCOPE
Balpara performs the overhead electrical
survey, drafting & detailing services for
AusNet’s conductor replacement project
which is to replace old steel conductors
with new and to replace all copper
conductors with aluminium.
The total project covers 150km.

9. SUBSTATIONS
THE PROJECT
Balpara was engaged by Multipipe to GPS detail and draft 66kV related assets on the
Richmond Terminal Substation (RTS).
The multi-stage project required multiple site visits and substantial detailing, using
GPS to ensure accuracy under challenging circumstances.
Richmond Terminal Substation is owned by AusNet services and feeds both the
CitiPower and United Energy networks.

10. DETAILING
PROJECT SCOPE
Undergrounding of two new transmission
circuits between North Melbourne - Carlton.
Some impressive figures:
length of cable for 1 circuit 5.145 km
3 cables per circuit
total length of 1 circuit 15.435km
grand total of all circuits 30.87km
The project uses 1,600mm squared
