Two exams (midterm and final) will be given during the course of the semester. The final exam
will not be cumulative. Please note the exam dates listed on the syllabus and plan your
schedules/appointments accordingly. Makeup exams will be given if you need to miss an exam
because of an emergency. However:
 Make-up exams will be given at the time of the final ONLY. You can take the midterm
immediately after you hand in your final.
 Make-up exams may be different from the original exam, and they will be whatever
format I choose—possibly entirely essay or even oral.
 If you miss the final exam, you must contact me within ONE DAY of missing the
exam in order to schedule a make-up. You will be given an opportunity to take the
make-up final on an alternate day at a time of my choosing. The exam must be
taken within 3 days of missing the final, since there is a deadline for grade
submission.
Your final grade in the course will be calculated as follows:
Midterm Exam 50%
Final Exam 50%
There will be no “curve” on exams or on your final class grade. What you earn is what you get.
Keeping up with the readings, attending class, and allowing sufficient time to study for the
exams will help you achieve the highest grade in this class. I am looking for an understanding of
the material. Test questions are designed to assess your level of understanding, not
memorization. If you have questions, please ask. The more you understand the better you will
do.
Classroom Courtesy
Please arrive on time. If you do arrive late, please enter the classroom as quietly as possible and
take the most accessible seat available. If you know you will be leaving class early on a
particular day, there is no need to inform me in advance; however, please take a seat close to an
aisle and leave as quietly as possible.
Please remember to either turn off your cell phone or completely turn the ringer off before
class begins. Texting is not allowed in class. If you need to text please leave the classroom.
Talking or whispering to each other during class is disruptive and disrespectful to me as well as
to your classmates. If you have something urgent to speak to your friends about, there is no
reason for you to remain in the classroom.
Cheating will not be tolerated. If I see you cheating or communicating with a classmate in any
way during an exam, you will automatically get a 0 on the exam.

Recommendations: I strongly encourage you to keep up with the readings,
attend, and participate in class. This class is about understanding
adolescent development. It takes time to understand the material. If you
have any concerns please see me as soon as possible.

There are two required books for the class: 1- Developmental Psychology: Childhood and Adolescence, 8th Edition David Shaffer & Katherine Kipp ISBN-10: 0495601713 ISBN-13: 9780495601715 © 2010 Published 2- WHY Do They Act That Way?: A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen Author: David Walsh Publisher: Free Press Date: (May 24, 2005) ISBN-10: 0743260775 ISBN-13: 978-0743260770 Two exams (midterm and final) will be given during the course of the semester. The final exam will not be cumulative. Please note the exam dates listed on the syllabus and plan your schedules/appointments accordingly. Makeup exams will be given if you need to miss an exam because of an emergency. However:  Make-up exams will be given at the time of the final ONLY. You can take the midterm immediately after you hand in your final.  Make-up exams may be different from the original exam, and they will be whatever format I choose—possibly entirely essay or even oral.  If you miss the final exam, you must contact me within ONE DAY of missing the exam in order to schedule a make-up. You will be given an opportunity to take the make-up final on an alternate day at a time of my choosing. The exam must be taken within 3 days of missing the final, since there is a deadline for grade submission. Your final grade in the course will be calculated as follows: Midterm Exam 50% Final Exam 50% There will be no “curve” on exams or on your final class grade. What you earn is what you get. Keeping up with the readings, attending class, and allowing sufficient time to study for the exams will help you achieve the highest grade in this class. I am looking for an understanding of the material. Test questions are designed to assess your level of understanding, not memorization. If you have questions, please ask. The more you understand the better you will do.
  • 2. Classroom Courtesy Please arrive on time. If you do arrive late, please enter the classroom as quietly as possible and take the most accessible seat available. If you know you will be leaving class early on a particular day, there is no need to inform me in advance; however, please take a seat close to an aisle and leave as quietly as possible. Please remember to either turn off your cell phone or completely turn the ringer off before class begins. Texting is not allowed in class. If you need to text please leave the classroom. Talking or whispering to each other during class is disruptive and disrespectful to me as well as to your classmates. If you have something urgent to speak to your friends about, there is no reason for you to remain in the classroom. Cheating will not be tolerated. If I see you cheating or communicating with a classmate in any way during an exam, you will automatically get a 0 on the exam. Recommendations: I strongly encourage you to keep up with the readings, attend, and participate in class. This class is about understanding adolescent development.
