1. Unit 18 Advertising - Evaluation
In this unit my main contributions to the team were my designing of the name, designing of the
slogan and the designing of the logo.
I think that the colour scheme is good because it reflects the flavour of the gum – orange. I like the
name because it emphasises the qualities of the gum. I didn’t want it to be more than one word
otherwise in my opinion it would be a lot less memorable. As for the slogan “Thrill yourself” I think
the decision to keep it short as well was a good idea because it ensures that it is catchy. The fact that
it is imperative makes potential customers feel as if they have to buy it. In terms of improvement, I
think that the logo of the two waves could be changed. Currently it doesn’t reflect anything to do
with the product but it could be modified to make the gum seem more enticing.
In our team we all did different aspects of the task. Personally I enjoyed the role I played. I designed
the logo, name, slogan, tube advert and the majority of our script. I think that this played to my
strengths as I am good at English so I could form a sophisticated script. This also applied to the name
and slogan. I think that although I am quite creative, there are other people in our group that could
have come up with a better logo. Also I am not the strongest at the graphics side of things. Therefore
my original design was not in a high resolution so Charlie made a similar in higher definition.
I think that in our team we all worked well together and everyone had an input in our process.
However we didn’t work too quickly which meant that we had to rush the making of our
presentation which was not ideal. Everyone in the team did very good designs on the print adverts
and everybody did one each. When anybody got stuck during this procedure they knew that they
could ask somebody else for advice. Overall, we all played our part in the team which contributed to
a good end result.
I am pleased with my print advert. I designed for a London Underground station so I made it vibrant
to the passengers who would be met with many posters in a station. This vibrancy would mean that
it would stand out and attract the passengers’ attention. The effect of the woman smiling is that it
makes the product seem tasty as she is enjoying her Exhilaration experience.
2. In my opinion the final pitch went well because we put across all of the necessary information and
we delivered it well. Our PowerPoint matched our script and it all came together well.
If I were to do the presentation again I think I would spend less time on the print adverts and more
on the presentation and the TV advert.
