 ISO 14001 is among ISO's most well known
  standards ever.

 Itis implemented by more than a million
  organizations in some 175 countries.

 ISO14001 helps organizations to
  implement environmental management.

Environnemental management
 ISO
    14001 is for EMS. This means what the
 organization does to:
 1.   minimize harmful effects on the
      environment caused by its activities,
 2.   to conform to applicable regulatory
      requirements, and to
 3.   achieve continual improvement of its
      environmental performance.

 satisfying
          the customer's quality
  requirements,
 complying to regulations, or
 meeting environmental objectives

Processes, not products
 ISO   14001 concersn the way an
  organization goes about its work.
 It is not product standards.
 It is not service standards.
 It is process standards.
 It can be used by product manufacturers
  and service providers.

Certification & Accreditation
 Itmeans that an independent, external
  body has audited an organization's
  management system and verified that it
  conforms to the requirements specified in
  the standard (ISO 14001).
 Accreditation is like certification of the
  certification body.

 Provide all docs, records and procedures
 If this 3rd party audit verified

 You are ISO 14001 certified
 Your certificate is valid for 3 years

Surveillance audit (9/9)
   After certification the company will be
    audited each
        6 months or
        1 year
   The purpose of this audit is to see if
    requirement are followed up and maintained.
   Audit findings:
    1.    A major non conformity
    2.    A minor non conformity
    3.    An observation or opportunity to improve

  • 3. 3 ISO 14001 in brief  ISO 14001 is among ISO's most well known standards ever.  Itis implemented by more than a million organizations in some 175 countries.  ISO14001 helps organizations to implement environmental management. AARDO
  • 4. 4 Environnemental management  ISO 14001 is for EMS. This means what the organization does to: 1. minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities, 2. to conform to applicable regulatory requirements, and to 3. achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance. AARDO
  • 5. 5 Why have ISO 14001?  satisfying the customer's quality requirements,  complying to regulations, or  meeting environmental objectives AARDO
  • 6. 6 Processes, not products  ISO 14001 concersn the way an organization goes about its work.  It is not product standards.  It is not service standards.  It is process standards.  It can be used by product manufacturers and service providers. AARDO
  • 7. 7 Certification & Accreditation  Itmeans that an independent, external body has audited an organization's management system and verified that it conforms to the requirements specified in the standard (ISO 14001).  Accreditation is like certification of the certification body. AARDO

  • 9. 9 Prepare your company (1/9)  Buy ISO 14000 family standards  Learn about the standard  What is ISO 14001?  What is EMS?  Learn about the requirements?  Buy training materials ( ppt, implementation of ISO standards…) AARDO
  • 10. 10 Perform the Gap Analysis (2/9)  Perform preliminary environmental review and gap analysis in the company  Prepare list of all operations  Use specific checklist  Review previous environmental issues  Consider current regulations  Determine gaps that needs to be changed AARDO
  • 11. 11 Prepare the Project Plan (3/9)  Create the plan to determine tasks, timelines and needed resources  Consider a step-by-step method  Use MS Project or others for planning  Or prepare a checklist to not miss anything  Prepare instructions of how to prepare the ISO 14001 docs  Orient each person who is involved in the preparation of the documents AARDO
  • 12. 12 Train your staff (4/9)  Train the staff to understand ISO  Train the staff on the process of certification  Train the staff with ISO 14000 family  Train the staff with needs and requirements of ISO 14001  Train the staff with EMS  Train them with concept of PDCA and process approach AARDO
  • 13. 13 Develop documentation system (5/9)  Understand the scope of your company operations  Prepare the list of all documents needed  Use advocacy from EMS certification organization  Use standard documents formats AARDO
  • 14. 14 Improve the gaps of EMS (6/9)  Implement the docs and process prepared  Redesign and develop the current ones  Use PDCA  Fill the gaps  Collect and record all the files AARDO
  • 15. 15 Conduct internal audit (7/9)  See the system if it is working  Give corrective actions  Propose preventive actions  Use standard checklist for the internal audit AARDO
  • 16. 16 Register with ISO 14001 (8/9)  when all requirements were met  Declare to the certification organization and ask for audit  Provide all docs, records and procedures  If this 3rd party audit verified Bravo !  You are ISO 14001 certified  Your certificate is valid for 3 years AARDO
  • 17. 17 Surveillance audit (9/9)  After certification the company will be audited each  6 months or  1 year  The purpose of this audit is to see if requirement are followed up and maintained.  Audit findings: 1. A major non conformity 2. A minor non conformity 3. An observation or opportunity to improve AARDO
