Convener’s Message
This past year of effort working to set up the AAPI regional concert, initiated by our
immediate past president Dr Narendra Kumar, has shown me the zeal and hard work
of every volunteer that it takes to create a successful event. I witnessed firsthand an
excellent interaction between local chapters and American Association of Physicians
of Indian Origin.
This year brings the second in series of this prolific fusion of Education, Entertainment
and Charitable Fund raising event to Washington Metro area. Dr Jayesh Shah,
our AAPI president, was very persuasive and I am thankful to him for including
Washington Metro area as part of the national endeavor. “Be Fit-Be Cool” is a very
catchy and appropriate slogan for this event’s flag bearer.AAPI, under able leadership
of Dr Jayesh Shah, has taken a very commendable step to raise awareness about
Childhood Obesity. With interaction between AAPI, Local Chapters, and Governmental agencies leading the
effort on Walkathons/Educational material/Healthy lifestyle promotion, I am sure this project would be successful
in advocating healthcare policy changes nationwide
.
Organizing this event has definitely brought Virginia chapter closer to AAPI. Virginia Chapter (VAAPI) becomes
the youngest Patron Member of AAPI. AAPI gets a huge boost in potential life members and VAAPI gains in
national level support and a part in fund raisers. Virginia chapter (VAAPI) has taken a lead in hosting this event
with invaluable help from IMA (Maryland). We extend a warm welcome to Shankar, Ehsan and Loy along with
Darshan Mehta of Balaji Entertainment to our nation’s capital.
I cannot thank enough my co-chairs Dr Sudhir Sekhsaria (President IMA, Maryland) and Dr Arvin Chawla (Vice
President, VAAPI) for standing by me through this onerous time. I cannot imagine this event happening without
them. From ticket sales, promotions, to putting together Souvenir, they did it all. Tyson Corner’s Starbucks has
been our second home!
I extend my gratitude to our core administrative committee for their unequivocal help in organizing this event-Dr
Mandeep Sandhu(Booths),Dr Ravneet Grewal (Medical Program) , Dr Manbir Takhar, Dr Charu Sabharwal, and
Dr Rohit Suri. I acknowledge our Advisory Committee’s guiding hand and mentorship under leadership of Dr
Vinod Shah.
Organizing a concert of this magnitude is an intimidating thought. I am grateful to Manish Sood of Intense
Entertainment –our event manager/coordinator; Kirit Udeshi, Ashwin Saboo and Binoy Shankarath for their
tireless and persevering work. They were ably supported by our Logistics, Promotions and Hospitality committee.
