Editor's Notes
IA and TL 2 Indexes to literature – a strength of libraries Opportunities to provide links to sources. Index Animalium Description and examples of species citation to bibliography to BHL pg Taxonomic Lit – new project. Strength is the names of botanist. Can this link to things like VIAF? Open Linked Data
Book by book, Journal by journal, Page by page – Looking for species and indexing what he found.
IA is an Index Sherborn put the species first then the Genus, but what is being said is Full Citation example: Titian Ramsey Peale “authored” the marine mammal species of dolphin “albiumans Delphinus” naming it for the first time in volume 8 of Charles Wilkes multivolume publication of the United States Exploring Expedition.
Every taxonomist, without exception, who attempts to identify a work whose title may be less than precise, determine the date that a given work was published or determine the authorship of a work (and hence the authorship of a name) must consult TL-2 it allows for standard citations of authors, titles, and dates of publication (important for sharing information via computer files); and since it is a guide it saves librarians time in locating which major institutions hold copies of the work in question and researchers time in answering questions regarding the nature of important works held by a select few libraries.
