The SAP HANA hdblcm tool has been introduced to offer the efficiency of installing and updating all components at one time,
while providing further flexibility to customize and automate the installation and update of an SAP HANA system. The SAP HANA
system can be installed, upgraded, customized or uninstalled from one tool, in both command-line or graphical interface.

Location for updating the SAP HANA system:
Before performing the update, ensure that the downloaded packages from SAP
Service Market Place are extracted and accessible from the SAP HANA host.
1. SAP HANA single component update via download from SAP SMP:
 Navigate to the directory and run the hdblcm tool with action update.
Example:
<host>:<download_path>/SAP_HANA_DATABASE #./hdblcm –-action=update
2. SAP HANA SPS update via download of the multi-span archives from SAP SMP:
 Navigate to the directory and run the hdblcm tool with action update.

Methods
SAP HANA platform lifecycle management tasks of an SAP HANA system can be carried out using the following methods:
• Interactive
• From the command line (hdblcm)
• From the graphical user interface (hdblcmgui)
• Command-line with parameters
• With providing of all necessary parameters
• With usage of a configuration file
• With combination of a configuration file and additional parameters

Location of the resident hdblcm(gui)
With each SAP HANA installation comes it‘s own resident hdblcm(gui). It will be automatically updated after each SAP HANA
database update. The resident hdblcm(gui) provides certain SAP HANA platform lifecycle managment services to configure
the corresponding SAP HANA system. It can be called from <Installation path>/hdblcm of the SAP HANA system.
Example:
/hana/shared/<SID>/hdblcm/hdblcm (resident)
• Supported services
• Add/Remove SAP HANA hosts
• Rename the SAP HANA system
• Uninstallation of SAP HANA components
• …

onto new host(s) without the use of reinstall or backup/restore mechanism.

Help usage
Syntax
The help parameter, called with the hdblcm tool alone, produces a general inline help text. By using the help parameter in
combination with the action parameter, an extended action-specific help is displayed:
• General help: -h or –help
• Update help: --action=update –h
Example: <host>:/<SAP_Installation_Medium>/DATA_UNITS/HDB_LCM_LINUX_X86_64 #./hdblcm --
action=update -h
• Help usage of resident hdblcm (called from the <Installation path>/hdblcm of the SAP HANA system):
Example: <host>:/hana/shared/<SID>/hdblcm #./hdblcm --action=rename_system –h
Displays the inline help information for specified actions.

Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting should be referred to if the installation, configuration or update fails for an unknown reason, or for work-arounds
in special circumstances. As a wrapper hdblcm(gui) is calling the component tools for the corresponding lcm action. Depending
on the scenario, consider besides the hdblcm(gui) log file the corresponding component tool log file as well.
• Location of the log files
• /var/tmp (for hdblcm(gui), component tool log files like: hdbinst.log, hdbupd.log, hdbrename.log, hdbaddhost.log, …)
• SAP HANA platform lcm support components
• HAN-LM-INS = SAP HANA Installation
• HAN-LM-UPG = SAP HANA Upgrade
• HAN-LM-PLT = for the remaining SAP HANA platform lcm operations (like rename, add/remove hosts, …)

SAP HANA unified installer (deprecated since SAP HANA SPS 07)
• The SAP HANA unified installer will not be part of the SAP HANA SPS 08 shipment and any further SAP HANA releases, instead we
recommend to use hdblcm(gui) which was introduced with SAP HANA SPS 07.
• End of Maintenance for SAP HANA unified installer for SAP HANA SPS 07 version will be 31.12.2014
SAP HANA lifecycle manager
• To enable a smoother and reliable transition to hdblcm (offering efficient installation and update of all components at one time combined with
flexibility to customize + automate these processes, all in one tool), functionality of SAP HANA lifecycle manager got reduced to avoid
overlap – for more information, see SAP Note: 1997526
• As of SAP HANA SPS 08, the Solution Manager Diagnostics Agent can no longer be added to and removed from the SAP HANA host by
using the SAP HANA lifecycle manager. To add or remove the Solution Manager Diagnostics Agent, use Software Provisioning Manager
which can be download from SAP Service Market Place - for more information, see SAP Note: 1858920
• Documentation change: consequently, the services described in the “SAP HANA Update and Configuration Guide” are merged into the “SAP
HANA Administration Guide” and the “SAP HANA Server Installation and Update Guide”

Some recommendations and information:
• We strongly recommend to attend the completely revised
HA200 classroom or HA200 E-learning training
