Pecha kucha project

Notas del editor

  1. Hello, My Name is Ryan Upsall, and this is my PechaKucha slideshow presentation. PechaKucha is a standardised way of structuring a presentation in order for it to be concise and direct. The normal PechaKucha presentation lasts for around 6 minutes 40 seconds as it consists of 20 slides and each slide is 20 seconds long.
  2. My PechaKucha presentation is all about Mapping the Self, as applications today can monitor their user using a vast array of devices and present the data back to them. This is the sleep cycle application which can be downloaded on smart phones and tablets. It uses the devices motion sensors and measures how much movement is made during the night to measure your sleep.
  3. It then presents the data back to the user in the morning as a line graph so they can easily see the quality of the sleep that they had last night. It also presents other relevant data about the night’s sleep such as the time that they spent in bed, the total number of hours which they had spent a sleep and also a picturgram of how you felt when you woke up by asking you the question as soon as you wake.
  4. Also, when you flip your smart phone horizontally, it also presents the user with further graphs and diagrams so they can be further informed about their overall sleep quality from since they started using the application, or refine their date to show only the past three months, if they have used it for that long, or the previous 10 days.
  5. There is also an alarm function on the application, which you simply use the bars to select the required time you wish to be woken up and the alarm will wake you up within a half an hour period before that time, depending on which point during this period you are in your lightest sleep, so you wake up feeling better than a normal alarm.
  6. You can also change the settings so the application runs how the user wants it to run. This customisation allows the application to suit the user, not the user suiting the app, therefore it will appeal to more people. You can edit the alarm sound, if you want a snooze button or not etc... You can also set when your weekends are which will still monitor your sleep, but it wont sound an alarm in the morning.
  7. This is the screen when you have told the application that you are going to bed, and informs you what to do every single night so you get the best results. As you can see you place the device face down on the bed and try not to cover it with any thick materials which will stop the device’s motion sensors from functioning properly, which would alter the results.
  8. Then when you are in your lightest sleep and between the hours you have set your alarm for, the application will then play the alarm you have set, along with a easy to look at good morning screen to wake as comfortable as possible which you simply slide the lock bar to stop the alarm. Users also have the option to have a snooze as well.
  9. Then once you have woken up and have stopped the alarm, the application will then ask you a question of “How did you wake up?” and presents you with three pictures of a smiley face, an averge face or a sad face. Which you choose the one with the one which corresponds to yourself. Then overtime, the user can see how happy or sad they have woken up over a period of time.
  10. I have also taken a print screen of all of the comments that other users have said about the application, and their own personal experiences using it. As you can see from the comments and the ratings other people have given it, you can see that the app is really popular and works properly, which they have said they would recommend it to somebody else.
  11. I also started to use a second application, which I called Placeme. This is an app that, by using your devices GPS, it monitors exactly where you have been without the users input. It also tags you into places which have been created by other users which you can change or edit at a later time if it has tagged you into another place by mistake.
  12. Then, once all of the information has been collected, it then presents the data back to the user in a couple of ways. The first way being, presenting the data onto an interactive map and uses arrows to point where you have been, you can also click on the arrows to bring up the information of your stay there such as how long you was there and what time.
  13. The second way it presents the data is by showing where you have been as a list, again also showing the times of when you was there and how long you was there for. You can see this information for any day since you have download the application by simply clicking on the dates at the top of the page to see where you have been.
  14. You can also edit the place that you have been. This can be done by simply clicking on edit and the application shows a list of results near to where you hvepreviosuly been tagged in and shows the results in order of distance from where it is. The application also allows you to add new places and delete any tags if it has been added incorrectly.
  15. I have again taken a print screen from the apple app store to show the comments and ratings that other users have given it. As you can see from the picture, users have given it a range of ratings, but also some improvements it could have, such as social integration and improved location finding. There is also concern about the security as it knows exactly where you are even if you did not want it to know.
