Passion For Your
Work
You hear it everywhere from
successful people, job
seekers, and those in between
jobs. ”I have found my
passion that’s why I am
successful”, “I haven’t found
my passion yet” are only
some of the references we
often hear when people speak
of the passion for work. But what is it really about
and how do we find it?
Pursuing a career entails so many considerations and
among these are external factors such as earning
potential, advancement opportunities, the nearness
of your workplace to your residence, one that makes
use of the education you have taken up, and possibly
one that will provide you with the best benefits
package that will help support your family. All these
are essential things to bear in mind when finding a
job but let us not forget the internal factors that also
affect your productivity. Job satisfaction is a very
essential thing to have when you have a job. It will
give you the drive to wake up each day and look
forward to another day at the office or work site.
Do not mistake job satisfaction for passion because
they are two entirely different things. Job satisfaction
may be defined as the level of contentment one has in
relation to the motivating factors provided by the job
they have. This includes incentives, benefits, and
rewards that are usually in the form of money,
promotions, praises, and many other positive things.
Passion on the other hand is a person’s innate love
for his job. It surpasses the mediocre satisfaction he
gets from the external factors that make him become
productive.
It goes without saying that if a person has passion for
his job, incentives, rewards, and other motivational
giveaways are only secondary to the thing that drives
him to be productive and to produce exemplary
results.
It is not something that is there for you to find
though. Contrary to the notion that passion is
something that is waiting for you to discover, it is
actually cultivated. When you find a career that
interests you, you are compelled to become better at
it. As you become better at it, it constantly becomes
very interesting to you. The more it interests you and
feeds your hunger for achievement, the more you
become passionate about it.
To sum it up, you must feel a certain buzz towards a
career that you choose. The passion for your work
may appear differently in every individual. Some may
easily fade, some may even disappear when you
develop it into a career. Always remember that you
have to know yourself really well to determine if it
still works for you. Don’t be ashamed to go back to
the drawing board and choose an entirely different
career path when it fails.
Managing Your Career
Going through life with the vision of having a
comfortable retirement someday after years of
working hard for it may seem to be what everyone is
aspiring for. Like any other dream, we need to take
the necessary steps in order for it to come true.
Nothing is ever done unless we take some action. But
what steps should we take in order to guarantee us
success? We have to plan for it properly, set our
sights on the goal, progress up the professional
ladder, and keep ourselves competent in order to
remain in the race as there are others besides us who
are also chasing the same dream.
Planning
Plan your moves properly because this will become
the backbone of all the things you are going to do and
what you are going to do next. Tailor it to your needs
and make sure that all the things you do are going to

be related and essential to the goal you are trying
hard to achieve. Don’t forget to make a contingency
plan as well in the event that things don’t go your
way. That way, you will not be stuck in a rut.
Goal Setting
In order for you to have a sense of achievement once
you have completed your plan, you should envision
your goals. Make short and long term ones so that it
is easily achieved. Short term goals are things you
want to get done in the next few months to a year.
You’d probably want to be promoted, or to have your
efforts recognized within a year. Long term goals are
those that you envision yourself doing after three to
five years. These could be made of bigger dreams like
being able to afford a down payment for a new house
or a new car.
Advancement
Aim for advancement in your career so that you will
be able to facilitate your progress up the professional
ladder. This one will be a challenging task because
you will encounter a lot of people also trying for the
same goal. Take heart because as long as you have
the determination and the qualifications to succeed,
you will eventually get it.
Competence
Keep your qualifications up to date. Make them
current even though you are not using them at
present. You’ll never know when you will need it.
There are so many opportunities that may require
you to present these qualifications. You might decide
to change careers, work abroad, or change employers
so you will need to be prepared for anything.
As long as you are motivated to achieve the goals you
have set for yourself, you will be on the right track.
Career management is all about preparing for the
future in a way that is organized, gives you direction,
and gives you an option when things don’t go right.
