1. I really like the action genre of the film as I find it really makes you connect and think about
the film, intriguing the audience, putting them on edge of their seat and engaged at every
moment.
In this particular film I think it works well as it also has a connection between the main
characters that softens the violence and creates a dimension to the films plot line, not just
purely about the killing. The relationship between the two main characters starts off as a
father and daughter ‘like’ bond, but soon turns to an uncomfortable and strange relationship
between a young girl and full grown man, where the girl starts to show more of a romantic
connection with Leon and we aren’t really sure how Leon takes this or how he feels, but still
like to think that the father daughter connection is still a factor in his eyes and nothing else,
as this is where I think most of the audience would start to feel uncomfortable about the
relationship. Still in my eyes the innocence of the young girl isn’t tainted, purely just a puppy
love for one of the only people that has helped her and shown her love back.
Leon was realised in 1994 and directed by Luc Besson. The cast starring Jean Reno, Gary
Oldman, and the first big role by now Hollywood star, Natalie Portman. The general plot of
the film was abo Mathilda, a 12-year-old girl, who is reluctantly taken in by Léon, a
professional assassin, after her family is murdered. Léon and Mathilda form an unusual
relationship, as she becomes his protégée and learns the assassin's trade, whilst also
searching for revenge on the people that murdered her family.
The first inciting incident is when Mathilda’s family get murdered by the corrupted high up
cops at the start of the film. This lays the ground work down for the whole basis of the film in
which Mathilda and Leon join together as she seeks vengeance for her little brother who was
also murdered by the gang of corrupt cops.
Things escalate as they then go on to pursue the murders with the shooting of the main
cops friend, and this being told to him whilst Mathilda in his company attempting to kill him
too. Leon attempts to rescue her in a very heroic way, contrasting will his ‘lone ranger’ type

2. of attitude beforehand, showing that his feelings for Mathilda have grown and he now needs
to protect her too.
The rise in action happens when the corrupt DEA official decides to put a hit on Leon and the
girl, and sends the whole swat team in to find and kill them. This scene has a lot of killing
and action, and an abundance of suspense on how and if Leon and Mathilda make it out
with their lives.
We see Mathilda make it out and then we wait on Leon escaping in a disguise. As we are on
the edge of our seat, we see that Stansfield (DEA official) has inclines to where Leon is and a
clever shot from behind Leon showing him creates completely different end to the story of
which we used to imagine in the few moments of hope we had for Leon escaping.
Following from the killing of Leon we see how Mathilda is going to create a platform for the rest of
her life and continue on to have a surprisingly good and stable life.
