Transcript:CARL ESCHENBACH: All right Jay, thank you, and thank you guys for clapping. I haven't said a damn word yet. Appreciate that. So I'm going to go through kind of an overview of VMware strategy, vision and direction, specific to the IT market. And then I'm going to try to map into it the acquisitions we've made along the way and how it's going to continue to fill out our portfolio of offerings around what we call our new Three Tier strategy. And then I'm going to wrap up and really talk to you about how we expect you to go to market and what we expect you to sell given your current roles. And I think in this audience we have mostly account executives. We have some ISRs. I see some SE managers. Somehow we let Brandon Sweeney in the room today. Not sure how that happened, but Brandon's here. But really my last couple of slides are going to start to frame up how we expect roles in field operations to go to market. And for the first time we're going to probably be a little bit more prescriptive than we've ever been in the past. Because historically what we've been doing is acquiring these companies. We've been bringing them into VMware and we very quickly have gone out and trained you, whether it's on the web or whether it's in a training room kind of setting like this. And we've trained everybody on everything. And quite frankly, depending on your role, you should be selling different solutions and technologies into the market. We don't want everyone selling everything. So that's how I'm going to conclude, and then I'll turn it back over to the folks to really spend more time talking about the training session here.Author’s Original Notes:This is the first slide Carl begins the talk on
Virtualization is the foundation upon which cloud computing architectures are and will be built. The “Web” completely changed the way we think about consuming services over the internet. But it didn’t dramatically change the way IT can deliver those services. That’s the focus of cloud computing, which completes the transformation of service delivery. VMware, the customer-proven leader in virtualization, is aggressively helping businesses pave the path to “Cloud Computing”, which promises to be the new era in IT that finally addresses the compounding problem of complexity.
The VMware Cloud Application Platform combines the Spring Framework for building new applications together with a complete set of Application Platform Services required to run and manage these applications.[CLICK] Spring Framework: Spring is a comprehensive family of developer frameworks and tools that enable developers build innovative new applications in a familiar and productive way while enabling the choice of where to run those applications, whether inside the datacenter or on private, hybrid, or public clouds. Spring enables developers to create applications that: Provide a rich, modern user experience across a range of platforms, browsers and personal devices Integrate applications using proven Enterprise Application Integration patterns, including batch processing Access data in a wide range of structured and unstructured formats Leverage popular social media services and cloud service API’s[CLICK] VMware vFabric: VMware vFabric is a comprehensive family of application services uniquely optimized for cloud computing including lightweight application server, global data management, cloud-ready messaging, dynamic load balancing and application performance management. [CLICK] The products behind these services include: Lightweight Application Server: tc Server, an enterprise version of Apache Tomcat, is optimized for Spring and VMware vSphere and can be instantaneously provisioned to meet the scalability needs of modern applications Data Management Services: GemFire speeds application performance and eliminates database bottlenecks by providing real-time access to globally distributed data Cloud-ready Messaging Service: RabbitMQ facilitates communications between applications inside and outside the datacenter Dynamic Load Balancer: ERS, an enterprise version Apache web server, ensures optimal performance by distributing and balancing application load Application Performance Management: Hyperic enables proactive performance management through transparent visibility into modern applications deployed across physical, virtual, and cloud environments Policy-Driven Automation: Foundry is the tentative name for a new offering still under development that is focused on policy-based automation of application and platform configuration and provisioning tasks.
We’ve covered a lot this morningIt’s clear IT is in a very significant transitionAnd I am incredibly inspired to be part of this transitionTogether we truly can build a new stack for IT – the stack for IT as a Service THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT VMWORLD
Through VMware’s vast experience with its most advanced customers, VMware has developed an approach to guide the path to the ultimate goal: IT as a Service through a cloud architecture. This is referred to as the Customer Value Journey.
Transcript:So as you look at this, think about your role and think about over the next two days what you're selling to this customer, this fictitious customer that's in front of you. Okay? So with that, that's the strategy. That is the direction we're moving in. And I just caution you, again, back to that chart -- total addressable market opportunity. Remember this. Sell what's in the tool bag, position strategy and direction in the future, because what do customers buy? They buy vision, they buy strategy, but we can execute today. Look over here, this is where we're taking you by here, and we'll close this gap over time with the strategy, vision and direction that no other IT company on this planet Earth has today. And you either buy into it or you don't, and if you don't, I'm okay with that. The door's open. But if you do buy into it, the journey we'll take our customers on will not just be rewarding to our customers, but it will be rewarding to you and your teams. Guys, have a great couple days here, get fired up, leave here more productive, so go out and sell this three layer cake. Thanks everybody, have a good day.Author’s Original Notes:OK. With that. That’s the strategy.
