The Aztecs started as a nomadic group called the Mexica who arrived in the Valley of Mexico in the 12th-13th centuries. They eventually settled on an island in Lake Texcoco where they built the foundations of their powerful empire between 1325-1345, establishing the Aztec civilization that lasted until the Spanish conquered it in the 1500s.

Their civilization lasted for about 200 years before the Spaniards came and destroyed the empire in the 1500’s
