1. Dear Dr. Warner and Dr. Wymer,
I am writing you with regards to Rebecca Coco’s summer internship with Summer
Camps at College Settlement. The mission of the camps is to provide camping programs and
services to young people from the greater Philadelphia area, especially those who are
economically disadvantaged, in order to foster personal growth through understanding,
acceptance, respect for self, others and our natural world by means of enjoyable, experiential and
environmental educational activities.
For the past 9 weeks, Rebecca has been employed by the camps as a Camper Advocate.
The role of this position is twofold; facilitating small group activities focusing on conflict
resolution, team/self­esteem building and self­reflection as well as working through any difficult
camper issues that may arise throughout the camp day (bullying, physical/verbal altercations,
non­compliance with camp rules and regulations etc). Both of these functions are essential to
our campers having a successful 2 or 4 week stay at camp.
Over the course of the summer, Rebecca has demonstrated an uncanny knack for
balancing these job functions with poise and precision. Her interactions with campers are
positive, engaging, situationally appropriate and compassionate, and her ability to work
effectively with parents and guardians to resolve any and all issues has been second to none. In
my 16 years working at Summer Camps at College Settlement, I can honestly say that someone
of Rebecca’s caliber comes along very rarely, if ever. If there is any additional information that I
