SOUTH METROPOLITAN FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT, RAYMORE, MO, 1998-2012
FIRE CHIEF/DISTRICT MANAGER (2002-PRESENT)
Define special projects for the district to include the construction of a live fire training center, a new fire station,
remodels on existing stations, and purchasing new equipment to include fire apparatus, engines, an ambulance, and a
new aerial. Guide the focus of district efforts in fire prevention and safety. Perform periodic employee evaluations,
resolve employee grievances, define job responsibilities, and promote firefighter safety among employees. Aid in the
development and dissemination of district policy and procedures. Manage fire district training. As the Fire District Fire
Officer, administer and plan the annual fire district budget, and represent the district in community functions, and with
local businesses and other government entities. Provide Command and Control during emergency operations.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:
 Championed and guided the passage of a ½ cent sales tax for fire fighting operations, and helped to pass a
$6.7M bond for the purchase of new equipment.
 Wrote two successful USFA Grants for safety and emergency response equipment.
 Implemented a new health and wellness initiative for the district.
 Constructed a new training and service facility, and oversaw the construction of a new live fire training tower.
 Oversaw the construction of the new Fire Station #3.
 In 2012, instrumental in helping the district to obtain an ISO #2 rating.
DEPUTY CHIEF (2000-2002)
Served as the district Chief of Operations, during routine and emergency situations. Improved the efficiency of the
command structure within the district by proposing and then reorganizing the Fire District Chain of Command.
CAPTAIN(1998-2000)
 Accountable for the day-to-day operations of the assigned fire station, and the supervision of firefighters and
other personnel assigned during designated shift. Exercised Command and Control in numerous emergency
situations.

While also fulfilling the responsibilities as a Captain in the district, oversaw all union activities, including contract
negotiations, creating and distributing memoranda, and handling union member grievances.
