Saaremaa is an island located off the west coast of Estonia in the Baltic Sea. It has an area of 2,673 square km and a population of around 39,231 people. The capital and largest city of Saaremaa is Kuressaare. Some important sights on the island include Kuressaare Castle, the Kaali meteorite craters, Soviet-era World War II monuments, and the Panga cliffs. The island has a long history of occupation and was conquered in the 13th century during the Livonian Crusade.
