Portable is an Australian technology company that combines intelligent thinking and inspiring design to create groundbreaking products. Established in 2005, Portable works with brands, governments and entrepreneurs to provide solutions to their most challenging problems. Today the company has offices in Melbourne, Sydney and New York and not only releases innovative products for clients but also incubates it’s own.

We maintain and extend our position as a leading technology company by
acknowledging that innovative technology is only ever the byproduct of
intelligent thinking. We ensure that we think, design and plan before
constructing any process or technology tool.
We recognise that thinking can be more difficult than just executing anyone can just start coding or hammering at metal. Our approach
ensures that any solution we come up with is informed, has input from
multiple perspectives and skill sets.

3. COLLABORATION OVER COMPETITION
We are always open to meeting people with ideas, not only as potential
creative partners and investors but as a part of an inclusive support
network in a frontier growth industry. With this in mind, we are
continually reaching out to those we respect professionally, either within
our special industry or more broadly, and this expands our networks and
propels us forward.
We try to foster a culture of inclusiveness, over elitism or a hierarchy of
ideas. If we have an issue with a project, a client or a member of our
team, it is all of our responsibility to resolve it. This not only assists
practical problem-solving, it also impacts on training and development.

4. CREATIVITY AND VIABILITY
It’s easy to work exclusively in one hemisphere, it’s more difficult to
balance the two. But this middle space is where we strive to be. If a
project is too creative and does not take into account the need for
sustainability and future viability, it’ll be destined for interruption,
slow growth or failure. If a project is just viable because the resources
are there to execute it, then it can fail to capture the imagination of
the people who use it and lack innovation.
Having a sense of a project’s viability also means that we will always
push back to ensure that a project gets the time and the resources it
needs to be successful. When projects come through our doors, we
always work within this matrix as we believe it will produce self
sustaining, well received products.

5. KEEP ON MAKING
At the heart of Portable is a drive to continually be making new products
and bringing new concepts into being. In the first instance, this means
that they are self generating - we don’t wait for external resources, we
take the time to work out what opportunities exist for innovation, then
we make the space within our ranks to think, sketch, design, develop and
launch new products with the right partners. We don’t wait, we keep on
making.
This process allows us to keep our internal processes open and transparent
because we continually get to see how we work from a clients perspective
and we use this information to come up with new processes and better
products.

6. CASUAL PROFESSIONALISM
As a company we are confident knowing that we are made up of a group
of highly talented individuals, backed by strong strong systems and
practices that are built into our culture. This gives us a sense of
assuredness, which allows us to be casual with our collaborators. We back
our own abilities, and are charged with being upfront when it comes to
giving the right advice to those that we work with.
We are open and vocal about our ideas and the work we are doing
internally because we know that no one can execute projects like we do.
This candidness may at times surprise potential collaborators or partners,
but it fosters a culture of sharing ideas, helping others advance and
identifying multiple ways of working together. We call this approach
“casual professionalism”.

7. GLOBAL IN OUR APPROACH
We are aware that we are a global company, and through our offices in
Melbourne, Sydney and New York we have realized the need for any
modern company to present a global approach.
We work to solve problems on an international level because we have
the skills to do so, and compare ourselves not to other technology
companies locally, but those in other continents who are also at the top
of their game.
Our New York office, which has been in operation since 2010, is
testament to the need for any digital company in this age to have the
world’s media hub and the audiences it commands at our fingertips. As
a result, Portable imports the very best ideas to Australia and in turn
has a launching pad for its products in New York.
