The Government of India notified the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy 2012 on 17/3/2012 with the objective that the data/information generated using public funds should be readily available for sharing to the users for developmental planning. To implement the policy in the Planning Commission, an Oversight Committee was constituted on 11/5/2012. Upto Feb 2013, only 8 datasets were uploaded on the data portal. On 23/1/2013 the Oversight Committee was re-constituted with B.N.Satpathy, Sr. Adviser (S&T), PC, as Chairman. After reconstitution, regular meetings with all Advisers were held and concerted efforts made for uploading datasets on the Portal. As a result, as of 31/10/2013 a total of 699 datasets of the Planning Commission are available on the data portal for access. Planning Commission is at 4th position in uploading datasets compared to Ministry of Agriculture, followed by Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, and Ministry of Water Resources. Popular datasets include GDP of India and major Sectors of Economy, Tendulkar Committee Methodology poverty line estimates of number of persons, Total forest cover in India, Macro-Economic Indicators, Aadhaar numbers generated, Domestic savings and components thereof, Annual growth rate of GDP by Industry, & Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme-wise status.
