Mechanics
GOAL: The activity will help students develop their creativity, inquiry, research, writing ability, enhances
environmental & civic awareness, social responsibility, critical thinking, communication,
leadership, initiative and media literacy.
OBJECTIVES:
A. To understand basic concepts and underlying principles of video production as a tool to express thoughts,
ideas, opinions and initiative
B. To conceptualize, plan and create documentary film that highlight the school’s unique educational
practices, environmental and waste management practices, cultural diversity and political issues.
C. To engage student teachers to generate local content in establishing interactive lessons and educational
technology tools.
D. To promote digital literacy among student teachers.
E. To help student teachers develop leadership, teamwork, discipline, resourcefulness and creativity
F. To encourage students to develop the “learning by doing” attitude.
TOOLS/MATERIALS:
Video camcorder, Digital camera or DLSR camera, Laptop or Desktop, Editing Software,
Photo paper
MECHANICS:
1. Pre-production
a. Introduction to documentary film (Seminar-Workshop)
b. Conceptualization of the project
i. The team will organize and select a theme, a topic or community works related
to any of the following categories

c. Problems and Challenges of K to 12 Curriculum ,
d. New Learning Assessment
e. Challenges, Problems and Learnings of Practice Teachers

2. Production
a. Prepare questions, storyboard, interview guides, list of locations and sites
b. Set up interview dates and appointment
c. Conduct interview – interview candidate “ person must be authoritative”, someone of
great interest. Use two cameras for variety of angles and make sure you use a quiet
location away from windows! Don’t forget to get a signed release form
d. Shoot locations drawn from interview and collect file images to illustrate topics
3. Post Production
a. Edit to exactly 15-20 minutes in length
b. Titles and Transitions ( provide sub-titles for vernacular or local dialect)
c. Soundtrack with appropriate ducking- the interview MUST be heard!
d. Voiceover, if required. However, a good idea to have a person interviewed over
footages of whatever they do, day to day.
NOTE: Written work: release forms, production schedule and transcript of answers of the
interview
4. Finalization and Submission of Written Work and Film
a. Written Works : Group shall write a short narrative report about your team’s
documentary output and experiences.
