2. WHAT IS ADDICTION? Addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice that is a psychological or physical habit, to such an extent that its end causes severe trauma.

Two Forms of Addictions MENTAL Certain action and patterns in persons behavior A dependence on social networks to feel adequate A craving, an obsession that is psychological PHYSICAL Mood swings, withdrawal from social settings Dependence in which there is evidence of tolerance, withdrawal, or both

5. What Is Addict 2.0? The term web 2.0 is referred to web applications which we use on a social basis. It works on where individuals can retrieve information as well, build their own network So an addict 2.0 is one that is abnormally tolerant to and dependant on social networks such as: Facebook MySpace Twitter
6. 10 warning signs of Media Addiction 1. You find yourself accessing social media sites first thing in the morning, and last thing before you go to bed at night. 2. You become angry or agitated when unable to access your social media sites. 3. You regularly spend time on social media sites while alone. 4. You’ve been woken up late at night more than once, not in your bed, by the faint glow of a social media site. 5. You check the number of "friends," "followers," or "connections" you have more than once a day.
7. 6. When you hear about others experimenting with new social media tools, you are unable to continue what you are doing without stopping to experience them yourself. 7. More than once, you've had conversations with people online who are within your line of site. 8. At family and/or business gatherings, you've hidden the fact that you're looking at a social media site from others in attendance (also know as the "under the table, handheld look-up quickie"). 9. 8. Is Web 2.0 a Source of Happiness or Addiction? According to Elisha Goldstein PH.D a clinical Psychologist; anything can become addicting from going on the internet to reading comics. He agrees that moderation is the key and people have to have insight into what actions help and what actions hinder them. His experiment suggests that these online sites give individuals a sense of belonging and community which This is a basic piece of our well-being sometimes we get a kick out of seeing what other people are up to or even connecting with old friends So are there any downsides to this new pattern of connection?

12. Negative Effects of Social Addiction Having a social media addiction can affect a person negatively in various areas in one’s life such as in their: Social Life Personal/ Marital Relationships Physical/ Mental Health
13. Negative effects in Social areas The most immediate negative effects are social. An individual may withdraw from friends, love ones, and family members. They may being to avoid social gatherings, skip meetings with friends and avoid family members to be available for more surfing time. The individual withdraws completely from society as they spend more time visiting various social sites. Even when one does interact with friends they become more irritable, when they are away from the computer causing more social harm.
14. Negative Effects in Personal/Marital Relationships Relationships begin to wither as one becomes more addicted to social sites. Social addiction can interfere with normal and mutually satisfying relationships. For instances should one become addicted to viewing to much pornography one may become impotent, or unable to fulfill their mates sexual needs. Also one may become distorted about sexuality and expect their partners to react out their fantasies. Living on sites like Facebook and reconnecting with ex partners and in still fear and distrust in many partners, leading to various arguments. Which can ultimately lead to a fail marriages, or relationships.
15. Unhealthy Mind and Body An individual who spends excessive hours in front of a computer is obviously not getting adequate exercise, which then can lead to obesity. Excessive use of a mouse and keypad can lead to repetitive stress injuries. Back problems are common among people who spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer. Late night sessions also reduce the well needed 8hrs of sleep individuals need to function efficiently. Long term sleep deprivation causes drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, and depression of the immune system.
17. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that in today’s society, most people would rather play on the computer, social network, or use technology rather then go outside socialize, or exercise? 1990’s = 2010’s
18. DID YOU KNOW THAT Due to the reason of people’s social networking addictions, people will have a shorter life span? WHY? Not getting enough exercise, may lead to obesity. “The number of Canadians who are overweight or obese has increased dramatically over the past 25 years. Obesity is a risk factor in a number of chronic diseases. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is important to reduce the risk of those diseases and improve overall health.”
21. Facebook is a social networking website which was launched in February 2004 Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates The website currently has more than 400 million active users worldwide
22. Facebook has had its share of controversy. It has been blocked intermittently in several countries including Pakistan, Syria, China, Vietnam,and Iran. It has also been banned at many places of work to discourage employees from wasting time using the online web service.

25. Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service users can send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers Twitter is the THIRD most popular social networking website.

28. The Future Of Social Media Social medias are scape goats from reality Sooner or later people will have been sucked into the world of these social networks This will bring the usage of certain things i.e. msn, telephones, face to face contact to a minimum It will be a new global pandemic!
29. Future Implications The use of Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking tools can increase the risk of cancer. The reduction of face to face, or personal contact could increase the risks of heart disease, stroke and dementia. Increased isolation could alter the way genes work and upset immune responses, hormone levels and the functions of arteries. It could also impair mental performance.
30. Future Implications Interacting “in person” had effects on the body, levels of hormones such as the “cuddle chemical” oxytocin, which promotes bonding and only alters whether people are in close contact or not. Which makes a difference between” real presence” and “virtual variety”. Other genes, including ones involved with the immune system and responses to stress act differently according to how much social interaction a person as with each other.

33. How Can Addiction Be Broken? Like anything else an addiction can be broken by the individual himself or herself Internet addiction may be treated in a number of ways, counseling, cognitive-behavioral therapy, group therapy make a list of alternative activities and interests that you will follow. set realistic goals in order to reduce internet use increase other social activities lastly, there are software's available that can monitor how much time one spends on the internet and limit the websites that can be visited.
