The Hawaii Experience So Far…
Well you know what they say? “It was well worth the
wait”. That’s exactly how I feel right now. Sitting here
writing this note to you all i’m feeling extremely grateful
to a very kind and generous family. They have opened
their hearts and their homes to us and have created a
pathway for Anna and I to explore the Island of Maui in
one of the United States most popular destinations,
Hawaii.
Gary and Monica Worth have been instrumental in
getting us here to Maui in the fact that almost one year
ago they offered us their Maui condo to stay in for a
month to really see Maui and to have the opportunity to
teach them and their friends to dance. What was our
answer you ask? “Let me see what our schedule is like on
that date and Ill see if we can squeeze you guys in”? HELL
NO!!! We said “OMG are you kidding me??? YES YES
YES Of course we will come”

WHERE ARE WE THIS
MONTH…
Maui, HAWAII
Today’s Dance Tip
Match your steps to the beats.
Practice counting the beats in a
track or a song that your listening
to. then count the bars of music.
Is this track or song a 2/4 or a 4/4,
or possible a 3/4.
What this all means, is how may
beats of music can you hear
being played before the style of
the music changes and literally
tells you thats enough. “You only
get 2 beats in this bar or section
of music before you have to start
to count again.” Or does it tell
you “now this track has four beats
in this bar.”
The reason this is important is
because you will be able to
identify what dance you can
dance to what music. For
example a Cha Cha Cha needs a
4/4 track to dance to, but if all
you hear is a very slow 3/4 track
then your probably listening to
Waltz music. Dancing Cha Cha
Cha to waltz music would be like
filling up your cars petrol tank
with orange juice.
Here is a small guide to get you
going.
1. Rumba = 4/4
2. Samba = 2/4
3. Waltz = 3/4

The excitement of that moment still rings in my ears, bounces through my nerve endings and
still now gives me heart palpitations. Only small ones that get it running quicker. I feel short
of breath as I think to myself, “here I am sitting in one of Maui’s most amazing
condominiums, writing this letter to our friends from all over the world and its 4am.” Im not
tired. I can’t sleep and I know it’s not the jet lag
as my body is pretty used to it. I am simply too
excited to sleep as I don't want to miss even a
second of this magical place.
Walking around the island you begin to feel a
type of energy that permeates through every tree
and flows around every corner. The Aloha spirit
is felt by all who step on this land. The people of
Hawaii seem to breath friendship, love and a
welcoming desire to serve and show you their
home. I have not felt this much at home since
my grandmother passed away in 1991. Am I getting emotional? Absolutely. You can’t help but
feel the love, pure love that blows through you like the wind through your hair and changes
every though of negativity you had a second ago into pure peace and harmony.
Anna and I landed on the 8th of July. We made our way to the condo and checked in. Gary
has been emailing us and making sure everything is in order. He and Monica are absolutely
amazing hosts and have prepared everything. They know everyone on the island and it looks
like everyone loves them. We got into the the room at around 12:30 pm. Walked around a
little, unpacked a little and were asleep by 2pm. The sun was high in the sky and the day was
beautifully warmed for us.
Anna and I awoke that evening at 8pm from
hunger pains. We decided to go out and find
some food which as we learned, finishes at
around 9pm. So the only other thing we could do
is go find somewhere to dance. I mean what else
is there in life? Eat, Sleep, dance then repeat
right? Well to our surprise we walked a few
meters outside the condo and began to hear the
faint sounds of a baseline. “Somewhere in this
800 meter vicinity was a club belting out sounds"
I said, “because that is the unmistakable sound of
a subwoofer planting its baritone roots through the floor of a sweat soaked salsa club. Thats
right, I could hear all that from 800 meters away. Plus Gary told me there would be a Salsa
club in our area but thats beside the point right?

Needless to say Anna and I found it, paid our US $5 entry fee
and proceeded to take ownership of the floor. We made a few
friends that night and some who even have contacted us
literally the next day for private lessons, what a trip. Today has
been quite a lazy day. Lots of emails and social media uploads.
Lots of communication with Australia and finalising this
newsletter. Dinner at Lelani’s Restaurant was nearly as
delicious as the food on Crystal Symphony and tomorrow its
time to hit the gym.
Stay tuned folks as there is much much more to come on this
totally awesome adventure that has had us hit the ground
running. No other way to live life fully self expressed than by
biting off more than you can chew and then chewing like hell.
Aloha…
