This document provides an introduction to relational databases. It discusses how data has relationships and provides an example of an ecommerce database with customer, order, and product tables connected by primary and foreign keys. The customer table lists customers with an ID, name, address, and phone number. The order table lists orders with an order number, customer ID, and product ID. The product table lists products with a product ID, name, and price. It also briefly mentions that relational theory is based on set theory and discusses some limitations of relational databases as well as the concept of polyglot persistence.
