CITY OF CHICAGO HOSTS RALLY TO CELEBRATE CLEAR RIDGE BASEBALL TEAM
WINNING 2016 SENIOR LEAGUE WORLD SERIES
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Alderman Marty Quinn and the City of Chicago hosted a rally today
in honor of the Clear Ridge baseball team, which won the 2016 Senior League World Series.
The team defeated the Southern Mariners of Melbourne, Australia in the championship
game on Saturday, August 6 by a score of 7-2.
“On behalf of the City of Chicago, I’d like to congratulate the Clear Ridge baseball team
on blazing through the competition and becoming the first Illinois team to ever win the
Senior League World Series,” said Mayor Emanuel. “These athletes have shown the world
how the children of Chicago can come together to achieve greatness, and have
added another exciting chapter to Chicago’s rich baseball history.”
Senior League Baseball is the Little League division for baseball players ages 13 through
16. This year, the Senior League World Series was held in Bangor, Maine.
“We have never been prouder to have our community represented by this team, and we all
look forward to celebrating their success,” said Alderman Quinn.
The Clear Ridge baseball team is comprised of athletes from the Southwest side
communities of Clearing and Garfield Ridge. The rally was held at Hale Park, the team’s
home field.
"I could not describe the joy I am feeling for the young men on this baseball team," said
Clear Ridge Manager Mark Robinson. "They've been playing with each other since they
were 6 years old and have formed special bonds, not only with other players on the team,
but with their families and their community as well. I know this means a lot for the Clearing
and Garfield Ridge areas, and I'm just glad that I was able to be a part of the journey."
