Peter Buist worked in the Japanese space program as a European GNSS engineer. He was motivated to work in Japan to gain experience in a high-tech non-Western environment and to continue his graduate research involving developing, testing, and conducting experiments in space. He worked for Japanese aerospace companies Toshiba and NEC, gaining experience in all stages of developing new GPS technology. Working in Japan provided stable long-term research opportunities due to available resources, though it required strong self-motivation as a foreign engineer. Buist's experience gave him knowledge of both space and user segments of GNSS systems and future career opportunities in Japanese language skills and industry experience.
